Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ropriate comments\u201d toward co-workers \u2014 on Friday agreed to retire effective March 1 and never again seek office as a judge, according to the state Commission on Judicial Conduct (CJC). <\/p>\n<p>Thompson, who was paid a $210,900 yearly salary, was accused of saying that homosexuality is an \u201cabomination,\u201d claiming that Hispanic people have \u201cdeceitful traits\u201d and called four other judges \u201cgay racist f\u2014-ts\u201d who were \u201call f\u2013king each other.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>The Office of Court Administration suspended Thompson \u2014 a Surrogate Court judge since 2019 who previously served as a civil court judge \u2014 in December 2021 after the inspector <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">general<\/a> for the state courts \u201csubstantiated\u201d misconduct claims against her.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/01\/brooklyn-judge-steps-down-bias-misconduct-feat-image.jpg?w=1024\" alt=\"Brooklyn Surrogate's Court Judge Harriet Thompson.\" class=\"wp-image-25293500\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/01\/brooklyn-judge-steps-down-bias-misconduct-feat-image.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1535 1536w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/01\/brooklyn-judge-steps-down-bias-misconduct-feat-image.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/01\/brooklyn-judge-steps-down-bias-misconduct-feat-image.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=512 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><figcaption>Brooklyn Surrogate\u2019s Court Judge Harriet Thompson has agreed to resign, citing health problems, amid misconduct charges.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">Kings County Surrogate Court<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The CJC then charged Thompson in May 2022 in a case alleging bias and inappropriate comments.<\/p>\n<p>The case also included charges of failing to carry out her court duties in a timely manner, causing substantial delays and failing \u201cto complete mandatory campaign ethics education in a timely manner,\u201d the CJC papers show.<\/p>\n<p>Thompson was supposed to face a formal CJC hearing on Jan. 17 \u2014 but turned in her letter of resignation. She will be allowed to keep her judicial pension. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"570\" Courts<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Thompson in November had sent the commission a doctor\u2019s letter that said she is \u201cnot medically fit to stand trial\u201d due to a disability and would likely have further medical procedures, CJC papers show.<\/p>\n<p>The commission then on Dec. 16 filed another complaint accusing Thompson of being medically unfit for office.<\/p>\n<p>Thompson\u2019s lawyer Andrew Fisher told The Post that Thompson has a shoulder injury that requires surgery and, \u201cBecause of the pain she endures she takes some medication which would interfere with her ability to participate in the defense against the charges that have been made.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The lawyer maintained that if Thompson weren\u2019t injured, she would have herself, but found that it was an impossible thing to do at this point,\u201d Fisher said. \u201cIt should be noted that there are no findings of wrongdoing that have been entered against her.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe leaves, hopefully, with her reputation intact,\u201d the lawyer said.<\/p>\n<p>CJC Administrator Robert Tembeckjian said the case against Thompson \u201cwas egregious and, if established at trial, would have warranted her removal from office.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\"
