The documents were found on Nov. 2, 2022, in a \u201clocked closet\u201d in the office, Sauber said.<\/p>\n<p>Sauber said the attorneys im<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a>tely alerted the White House Counsel&#8217;s office, who notified the National Archives and Records Administration \u2014 which took custody of the documents the next day.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSince that discovery, the President\u2019s personal attorneys have cooperated with the Archives and the Department of Justice in a process to ensure that any Obama-Biden Administration records are <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ropriately in the possession of the Archives,\u201d Sauber said.<\/p>\n<p>A person who is familiar with the matter but not authorized to discuss it publicly said Attorney <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">General<\/a> Merrick Garland asked U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois John Lausch to review the matter after the Archives referred the issue to the department. Lausch is one of the few U.S. attorneys to be held over from former President Donald Trump&#8217;s administration.<\/p>\n<p>Irrespective of the Justice Department review, the revelation that Biden potentially mishandled classified or presidential records could prove to be a political headache for the president, who called Trump&#8217;s decision to keep hundreds of such records at his private club in Florida <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/russia-ukraine-taiwan-biden-government-and-politics-mar-a-lago-2474104aa0fd9ffaa8de33538813c84e\" data-ylk='slk:\u201cirresponsible.\"' class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">\u201cirresponsible.&#8221;<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Trump weighed in Monday on his social media site, asking, \u201cWhen is the FBI going to raid the many homes of Joe Biden, perhaps even the White House?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The revelation comes as Republicans have taken control of the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/politics-us-republican-party-united-states-house-of-representatives-kevin-mccarthy-b9fcfd11427a695fe2eb49e36988f1a0\" data-ylk=\"slk:House of Representatives\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">House of Representatives<\/a> and are promising to launch widespread investigations of Biden&#8217;s administration.<\/p>\n<p>It also may complicate the Justice Department&#8217;s consideration on whether to bring charges against Trump, who has launched a repeat bid for the White House in 2024 and has repeatedly claimed that the department&#8217;s inquiry of his own conduct amounted to \u201ccorruption.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Rep. James Comer, the new GOP chairman of the House Oversight Committee, said Monday that the revelation raised questions about the Justice Department\u2019s handling of the Trump probe.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIs the White House going to be raided tonight? Are they going to raid the Bidens?\u201d he asked reporters. \u201cThis is further concern that there\u2019s a two-tier justice system within the DOJ with how they treat Republicans versus Democrats, certainly how they treat the former president versus the current president.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The National Archives did not immediately respond to a request for comment Monday. A message seeking comment from the U.S. Attorney\u2019s Office in Chicago wasn\u2019t immediately returned Monday.<\/p>\n<p>CBS was first to report on the discovery of the potentially classified documents.<\/p>\n<p>The Justice Department for months has been investigating the retention of roughly 300 documents that were marked as classified and were recovered from the Trump&#8217;s <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/hub\/mar-a-lago\" data-ylk=\"slk:Florida estate.\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">Florida estate.<\/a> In that instance, prosecutors say, representatives of Trump resisted requests to give back the full stash of classified documents and failed to fully comply with a subpoena that sought their return.<\/p>\n<p>FBI agents in August served a search warrant at the Mar-a-Lago property, removing 15 boxes of records.<\/p>\n<p>That investigation is being led by special counsel Jack Smith.
