legitimacy or constitutional authority\u201d \u2014 making them more like our Jan. 6 rioters \u201cthan the would-be insurrectionists might realize,\u201d <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/the-morning-jolt\/brazil-chaos-becomes-biden-administrations-problem-with-bolsonaro-in-florida\/\">argues National Review\u2019s Jim Geraghty<\/a>. Such groups \u201ccan only hope, against long odds\u201d to \u201csummon enough of a threat of violence that the entire previously existing constitutional order collapses\u201d so they can \u201crule by force.\u201d Yes, \u201cpopulist movements have an easy time whipping people up into an angry frenzy.\u201d But \u201cthe anger burns itself out eventually\u201d because \u201caverage human beings, from the U.S. to Brazil to the far corners of the Earth,\u201d want to \u201clive in peace and provide for their families.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Libertarian_The_Occupational_Licensing_Scam\"><\/span><strong>Libertarian: The Occupational Licensing Scam<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Occupational licensing is \u201ca weapon to enforce conformity,\u201d <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/reason.com\/2023\/01\/09\/with-jordan-peterson-occupational-licensing-becomes-a-way-to-censor\/\">thunders Reason\u2019s J.D. Tuccille<\/a>. Witness the move by the Ontario College of Psychologists to make Jordan Peterson take re-education classes over \u201coffenses\u201d such as \u201ccriticizing Canada\u2019s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.\u201d The action cloaks \u201cauthoritarianism in the language of concern,\u201d and though \u201ccreepy in a typically Canadian way\u201d may be headed to the US soon via a California law restricting what doctors can say about COVID. \u201cPoliticized licensing would bypass debate and shut down dissent through force of law,\u201d so \u201cunless you\u2019re a fan of handing political weapons to regulators who want to muzzle dissent, there\u2019s little good to say about making people seek permission to make a living.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Conservative_The_GOPs_New-Old_Impasse\"><\/span><strong>Conservative: The GOP\u2019s New-Old Impasse<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The days of \u201cthe Republican Party that existed before Donald Trump came along\u201d are back, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/01\/07\/opinion\/kevin-mccarthy-trump-republican-party.html\">observes The New York Times\u2019 Ross Douthat<\/a> \u2014 that is, an establishment \u201cwithout any particular vision or agenda\u201d bedeviled by \u201cconservatives with a lot of legitimate complaints about process joined to a policy vision that\u2019s mostly performative gestures and fiscal apocalypticism.\u201d An \u201cescape is imaginable\u201d: Focus on passing bills where the GOP has \u201can advantage with the public: a crime bill, a border security bill,\u201d etc., but \u201crecognize the impossibility\u201d of forcing \u201cmeaningful fiscal changes on a Democratic-controlled Senate and White House.\u201d So \u201cseek cuts in places that matter to Democratic interest groups,\u201d as deals that \u201cjust preserve the status quo\u201d are \u201cwhat will h<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>en anyway.\u201d Either \u201cHouse Republicans present themselves as a plausible governing party\u201d or \u201ctheir internal divisions yield both emptiness and chaos.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Energy_beat_Some_Inconvenient_Truths\"><\/span><strong>Energy beat: Some Inconvenient Truths<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>\u201cWithout question, America\u2019s commitment to the \u2018energy transition\u2019 is now in high gear,\u201d <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/opinion\/energy-environment\/3803942-some-inconvenient-truths-about-the-energy-transition\/\">cheers Bernard L. Weinstein in The Hill<\/a>, but \u201cfossil fuels aren\u2019t going away soon, either here or around the globe.\u201d The US is \u201cthe world\u2019s number one oil producer at 18.6 million barrels per day,\u201d making American energy exports, including natural gas and coal, \u201ca lifeline for Europe\u201d amid disruptions from Vladimir Putin\u2019s war. And \u201cfossil fuel use in fast-growing countries such as India and China will continue indefinitely.\u201d Realistic discussions should focus on \u201ctechnologies such as <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rff.org\/publications\/explainers\/carbon-capture-and-storage-101\/?gclid=Cj0KCQiAzeSdBhC4ARIsACj36uEzVOa1YWc79m7WjzyRZmqW0fzNV9kpiIf4Jf9I3ClhjTXaMSQnLZYaAhsWEALw_wcB\">carbon sequestration<\/a> and methane capture, rather than passing bans on hydraulic fracturing, fighting new pipelines, or requiring new office buildings and homes to be all electric.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Educator_The_School-Discipline_Crisis\"><\/span><strong>Educator: The School-Discipline Crisis<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>\u201cMisbehavior, office referrals, and violence spiked this past year in schools and districts across the country,\u201d<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalaffairs.com\/publications\/detail\/the-abolition-of-school-discipline\"> Daniel Buck warns at National Affairs<\/a>, and one key reason is \u201cthe trend away from punitive discipline.\u201d Many schools embrace \u201c\u200a\u2018restorative justice,\u2019 which focuses on <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a>tion and restitution as opposed to punishment,\u201d but \u201cit doesn\u2019t achieve its promised goals.\u201d Indeed, it \u201cdegrades academic performance while failing to reduce misbehavior \u2014 or, in some cases, fostering it.\u201d In fact, \u201cthe purpose of a suspension isn\u2019t necessarily the reformation of the one,\u201d but the protection of the 30 other children in that student\u2019s class and the hundreds of others in the building.\u201d This needn\u2019t be partisan: \u201cA poll from the National Education Association found that 90% of teachers say burnout is a serious concern; 76% identify student behavior as a driver of it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>\u2014 Compiled by The Post Editorial Board<\/em>\n                        <\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
