Weisselberg will be eligible for release after a little more than three months if he behaves behind bars.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/allen-weisselberg-trump-cfo-plea-deal-e36dbd47ee3b0323e1fa102117718011\" data-ylk=\"slk:plea agreement\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">plea agreement<\/a>, Judge Juan Manuel Merchan also ordered Weisselberg to pay nearly $2 million in taxes, penalties and interest \u2014 which he has paid as of Jan. 3. Additionally, the judge ordered Weisselberg to complete five years of probation after his jail term is finished.<\/p>\n<p>Weisselberg faced the prospect of up to 15 years in prison \u2014 the maximum punishment for the top grand larceny charge \u2014 if he were to have reneged on the deal or if he didn\u2019t testify truthfully at the Trump Organization\u2019s trial. He is the only person charged in the Manhattan district attorney\u2019s <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/business-new-york-manhattan-donald-trump-government-and-politics-af8c8d828e224dcde9b39ae17cbb3a4c\" data-ylk=\"slk:three-year investigation of Trump and his business practices\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">three-year investigation of Trump and his business practices<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Weisselberg testified for three days, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/business-new-york-manhattan-donald-trump-c34f862954f07da374468d92633b2a2b\" data-ylk=\"slk:offering a glimpse into the inner workings of Trump\u2019s real estate empire\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">offering a glimpse into the inner workings of Trump\u2019s real estate empire<\/a>. Weisselberg has worked for Trump\u2019s family for nearly 50 years, starting as an accountant for his developer father, Fred Trump, in 1973 before joining Donald Trump in 1986 and helping expand the family company&#8217;s focus beyond New York City into a global golf and hotel brand.<\/p>\n<p>Weisselberg told jurors he betrayed the Trump family\u2019s trust by conspiring with a subordinate to hide more than a decade\u2019s worth of extras from his income, including a free Manhattan apartment, luxury cars and his grandchildren\u2019s private school tuition. He said they fudged payroll records and issued falsified W-2 forms.<\/p>\n<p>A Manhattan jury <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/business-new-york-manhattan-donald-trump-government-and-politics-86177401a887c85ab50d8b78eb1ed397\" data-ylk=\"slk:convicted the Trump Organization in December\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">convicted the Trump Organization in December<\/a>, finding that Weisselberg had been a \u201chigh managerial\u201d agent entrusted to act on behalf of the company and its various entities. Weisselberg\u2019s arrangement reduced his own personal income taxes but also saved the company money because it didn\u2019t have to pay him more to cover the cost of the perks.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors said other Trump Organization executives also accepted off-the-books compensation. Weisselberg alone was accused of defrauding the federal government, state and city out of more than $900,000 in unpaid taxes and undeserved tax refunds.<\/p>\n<p>The Trump Organization is scheduled to be sentenced on Friday and faces a fine of up to $1.6 million.<\/p>\n<p>Weisselberg testified that neither Trump nor his family knew about the scheme as it was h<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ening, choking up as he told jurors: \u201cIt was my own personal greed that led to this.\u201d But prosecutors, in their closing argument, said Trump \u201cknew exactly what was going on\u201d and that evidence, such as a lease he signed for Weisselberg\u2019s apartment, made clear \u201cMr. Trump is explicitly sanctioning tax fraud.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A Trump Organization lawyer, Michael van der Veen, has said Weisselberg concocted the scheme without Trump or the Trump family\u2019s knowledge.<\/p>\n<p>Weisselberg said the Trumps remained loyal to him even as the company scrambled to end some of its dubious pay practices following Trump\u2019s 2016 election. He said Trump\u2019s eldest sons, entrusted to run the company while Trump was president, gave him a $200,000 raise after an internal audit found he had been reducing his salary and bonuses by the cost of the perks.<\/p>\n<p>Though he is now on a leave of absence, the company continues to pay Weisselberg $640,000 in salary and $500,000 in holiday bonuses.
