\n City and state officials seem bent on wrecking New York via lockdowns, soaring crime and tax hikes. Cheers to the new group coming to the rescue \u2014 by fighting new taxes and aiding businesses.<\/p>\n

Notably, the Campaign for New York\u2019s Future includes several key Democrats, like ex-Gov. David Paterson and former City Council Speaker Peter Vallone Sr., who played a key role saving the city in the \u201990s.<\/p>\n

They all know what\u2019s at stake: If officials \u201cjust pile up taxes,\u201d Paterson rightly warns, the rich are \u201cjust going to get up and leave.\u201d Instead, New York needs \u201cbold policies that keep healthy businesses here and help struggling businesses rebuild.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gov. Cuomo\u2019s budget czar, Robert Mujica, notes that rich folks are the most mobile, and many have fled during COVID. If they make it permanent, the tax base withers.<\/p>\n

Yet Democrats in Albany are eyeing tax hikes that will push them out, and Mayor de Blasio practically hopes the rich will leave. \u201cKick rocks, billionaires,\u201d his spokesman sniped. Mayors shouldn\u2019t be \u201ctoo cozy\u201d with businesses, warns de Blasio, insanely.<\/p>\n

Which is why it\u2019s good news<\/a> that the new group, to be funded largely by donors from the hospitality and financial industries, will spend millions on lobbying to \u201cpreserve\u201d New York\u2019s tax base and also \u201cexpand it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cA small share of taxpayers fund the lion\u2019s share\u201d of revenue, its website says. \u201cTo ensure a strong future, we must retain those taxpayers\u201d and broaden the \u201ctax base, so we are less dependent on them.\u201d Smart.<\/p>\n

The campaign will also push steps to aid restaurants, tourism and small businesses as well as other measures. Too bad for de Blasio: They may save the city despite him.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
