Comparatively, aside from a few spikes, transactions on the Ethereum network have declined by around 33% since late October according to<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/etherscan.io\/chart\/tx\"> Etherscan<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This has enabled the two L2s combined to flip Ethereum for this metric, according to Dune Analytics <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/dune.com\/blockworks_research\/l2-comparison-dashboard\">data<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The chart shows Ethereum processed over 1.06 million transactions on Jan. 10 whereas Arbitrum and Optimism combined processed over 1.12 million transactions.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, Optimism has now surpassed Arbitrum in terms of daily transactions following a steady uptrend in activity since September.<\/p>\n<p>Layer-2 ecosystem analytics website L2beat <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/l2beat.com\/scaling\/activity\">reported<\/a> all L2 activity in terms of transactions per second (TPS) surpassed that of Ethereum in October, and has remained above it since.<\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.cointelegraph.com\/uploads\/2023-01\/994ae858-92d7-4172-90cc-4e599ed91f46.jpg\"><figcaption style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>L2 activity in TPS &#8211; l2beat.com<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>On Jan. 10, Ethereum processed an average of around 12 TPS compared to the L2\u2019s average of nearly 16.5 TPS.<\/p>\n<p>Arbitrum and Optimism combined represent almost 80% of the entire layer-2 ecosystem according to L2beat.<\/p>\n<p>Arbitrum One remains the market leader in terms of total value locked (TVL) with its around $2.34 billion in collateral giving it a 52.5% market share.<\/p>\n<p>Optimism, in second place, has a TVL of $1.28 billion with a 28.6% market share. <\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.cointelegraph.com\/uploads\/2023-01\/03936c25-79e0-46bf-9136-567f3453c9b0.jpg\"><figcaption style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Cast your vote now!<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>According to Nansen researcher Martin Lee, decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols are one of the key drivers of the adoption of the Optimism chain.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Related:<\/em><\/strong><strong><em> <\/em><\/strong><strong><em>Can the Optimism blockchain win the battle of the rollups?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Other layer twos such as zk-rollup StarkNet have also been processing more transactions recently.
