Kathy Hochul has personally called on Democratic state senators to back Judge LaSalle as her pick to lead the state\u2019s highest court.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">ZUMAPRESS.com\/ Lev Radin<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>They\u00a0said the memorandum decisions are shorter and to the point and stick to relevant facts of the law because of a large caseload. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf a detailed and painstaking reasoned decision was required for each appeal, the entire<br \/>appellate structure would come to a grinding halt,\u201d the judges said. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo read into these memorandum decisions broad philosophical viewpoints on subject areas such as abortion rights and labor union rights is as unfair as it is uninformed. It is seen as a first amendment case,\u201d she said,\u00a0 pushing back at LaSalle critics who claim the ruling regarding so-called pregnancy crisis center shows he is somehow against abortion.<\/p>\n<p>Not true, Mark-Viverito said. <\/p>\n<p>Hoylman, who will preside over LaSalle\u2019s confirmation hearing, told The Post Tuesday night, \u201cEveryone is entitled to their opinion, especially former judges.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He promised a fair hearing for Hochul\u2019s nominee but did take issue with the retired judges\u2019 downplaying the memorandum decisions involving LaSalle, calling those rulings \u201clife changing litigation.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Stewart Cousins, in a Gotham Gazette <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gothamgazette.com\/state\/11765-max-politics-podcast-state-senate-majority-leader-andrea-stewart-cousins-2023\">podcast interview<\/a> last week, said\u00a0 Hochul\u2019s LaSalle\u2019s nomination was in trouble after meeting with the judge. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe need to change the trajectory of the way the court here in New York State here is going,\u201d the Senate majority leader said. \u201cPeople have decided long ago that we were for someone\u00a0who was not going to be part of the status quo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI do not see this ending in the way the governor wished it would.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Some critics from the left complain that LaSalle is a former prosecutor.
