Hyundai\u2019s new concept IONIQ 5 can do the same, making parallel parking easier than ever.<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Bbw_smfOgVA\">Shown off at CES 2023<\/a> last week, Hyundai\u2019s\u00a0Mobis division debuted the latest version of its \u201ce-Corner\u201d technology. It could soon allow vehicles to drive sideways for parallel parking, do a zero-turn function, or turn around 180 or 360 degrees while staying in the same spot. It\u2019s pretty impressive, and once you see the demo below, you\u2019ll understand why.<\/p>\n<lite-youtube videoid=\"Bbw_smfOgVA\" style=\"background-image: url('https:\/\/i.ytimg.com\/vi\/Bbw_smfOgVA\/hqdefault.jpg');\"><button type=\"button\" class=\"lty-playbtn\"><br \/>\n<span class=\"lyt-visually-hidden\">Play Video<\/span><br \/>\n<\/button>\n<\/lite-youtube>\n<p>The concept IONIQ 5 can turn all four wheels in one direction, then \u201ccrab drive\u201d sideways to park. The \u201czero turns\u201d function turns all the wheels outwards and can easily spin the car around to maneuver out of a tight spot. The company also showcased diagonal driving, something we\u2019ve seen on the $115,000 Hummer EV, but Hyundai\u2019s looks better, honestly.<\/p>\n<p>Hyundai isn\u2019t the first one working on these technologies. GM will debut 4-wheel steering on the Silverado EV for an improved turn radius on its large truck, Elon Musk says the Cybertruck will get a crab walk mode, Rivian\u2019s R1T electric truck can already do a few of these tricks, and <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thedrive.com\/news\/45082\/ford-is-working-on-a-crazier-version-of-the-hummer-evs-crab-walk\">Ford is working on it<\/a> as well.<\/p>\n<p>The new Hyundai e-Corner mode uses electric motors, brake by wire, and electric dampers as an all-in-one package for nearly any electric vehicle or PHEV. It doesn\u2019t take up any additional space under the wheel well and should be easy to incorporate in upcoming electric vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>This is far more advanced than any production system we\u2019ve seen. That said, you\u2019ll need a quad motor configuration for this to work, as all four wheels need their own independent motor, which increases costs.
