Gary Gensler finds new audience for his crypto skepticism: The US Army &#8220;<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h1>\n<div class=\"post-content\" data-v-6ed77c39>United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) chair Gary Gensler has found a new audience for his crypto-skeptical pep talks \u2014 the United States Army. <\/p>\n<p>On Jan. 11 the U.S. Army hosted its first <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Twitter<\/a> Space of 2023 with Gensler and SEC commissioner Caroline Crenshaw joining the discussion to provide financial advice on how and where U.S. soldiers should invest their money.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"zxx\" dir=\"ltr\"><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/oRjE3pDc8C\">https:\/\/t.co\/oRjE3pDc8C<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 U.S. Army (@USArmy) <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/USArmy\/status\/1613255714918612993?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 11, 2023<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>Sergeant Lawrence Holmes noted \u201cthere are soldiers that look for those alternative investments [such as] crypto assets\u201d asking the pair what risks there were to crypto investing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s the Wild West,\u201d Gensler answered, adding that \u201cmost of these 10,000 or 15,000 tokens will fail.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cHistory tells us there&#8217;s not much room for micro currencies, meaning, you know, we have the U.S. dollar and Europe has the euro and the like.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>He urged soldiers not to \u201cget caught up in the FOMO \u2014 the fear of missing out\u201d saying cryptocurrencies are \u201chighly speculative\u201d and \u201cnon-compliant.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cMost of these are not complying with the securities laws, but they should be.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Gensler further advised that if the G.I.\u2019s see a yield that\u2019s \u201ctoo good to be true \u2014 it probably is\u201d regardless of whether it\u2019s crypto-based or not.<\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.cointelegraph.com\/uploads\/2023-01\/9846ad24-26d5-4454-90b8-6819fd1b62fb.png\"><figcaption style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Cast your vote now!<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Crenshaw added to Gensler\u2019s comments saying cryptocurrencies are \u201cnoted for their scams\u201d and stated:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThey claim to be transparent, what\u2019s on the blockchain is transparent but the rest of what\u2019s there is not transparent and I think there have been some examples of that recently.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>She said those considering a crypto investment should give \u201ccareful, careful consideration\u201d to the percentage of their portfolio they devote to digital assets.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Related: <\/em><\/strong><strong><em>Defying expectations: After an uncertain year, DeFi has high hopes for 2023<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As for the SEC\u2019s advice on where U.S. Army personnel should place their dollars, Crenshaw told troops to invest \u201cas much as possible\u201d in a Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) \u2014 a government-sponsored retirement plan for federal employees and service members.<\/p>\n<p><template data-name=\"subscription_form\" data-type=\"defi_newsletter\"><\/template><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
