Until the migrants arrived, the Hispanic community was almost exclusively Puerto Rican, Martin said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Colombians are already here and more are coming. What is the government going to do about it?\u201d Martin asked. \u201cThey need housing and transportation or be allowed to work and get a driver\u2019s license.\u201d<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignright\">\n    <\/aside>\n<p>But without assistance, Martin warned, \u201cthey will have to work illegally to survive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMany of them have already been offered fake <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Social<\/a> Security numbers and cards. I know another family with kids coming from Texas now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Brenda, who was a nurse in Ibagu\u00e9, about 50 miles west of the capital of Bogota, said that her husband was \u201cstill in the military in Colombia\u201d and that she would \u201capply for asylum for the security of my children.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is very dangerous in Colombia for my kids because of the gangs,\u201d she said. \u201cThere is nothing there for my kids. It is safer here for my kids in Jamestown.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Brenda and her kids share a run-down house with another migrant named Ricaurte, 52, who said she told him about Jamestown while they were in detention together.<\/p>\n<p>The house is owned by an Amish construction boss who\u2019s friends with Max Martin.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn immigration, they asked for a phone number of someone in America. I gave them Brenda\u2019s sister\u2019s phone number and address in Jamestown,\u201d Ricaurte said.<\/p>\n<p>Ricaurte said he served in the military under the government that was replaced when leftist former M-19 rebel Gustavo Petro was elected president in June.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen the new government made a peace treaty with the guerrillas, the guerrillas want to kill the military who was against them. I don\u2019t want my kids to be homeless,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Carlos, who worked as a construction worker in Ibagu\u00e9, said he didn\u2019t \u201cwant to take a chance on working illegally because I risk being deported.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And if he went to Chicago, Carlos said, \u201cI\u2019m afraid I might have to start the immigration process all over again. My papers say Jamestown.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Martin, the community council president, said, \u201cIt has been a shock to see the amount of Latinos from Colombia coming to Jamestown.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe reason is the open border,\u201d he said. \u201cI would do the same thing, by the way, because of the freedom and opportunity we have in America. You can come here poor and become rich if you work your butt off.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe cold weather and the language barrier won\u2019t make them leave,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Democratic Jamestown Mayor Eddie Sundquist didn\u2019t immediately respond to an interview request from The Post.<\/p>\n<p>But Republican Chautauqua County Executive PJ Wendel said he was concerned by the situation unfolding in Jamestown and had sought help from Gov. Kathy Hochul and US Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), whose assistants didn\u2019t offer any.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven if it\u2019s 100 families, our school districts are small,\u201d Wendel said. \u201cThose schools don\u2019t have the resources. If they don\u2019t have a Spanish teacher, what are they going to do?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Wendel added: \u201cIt could be overwhelming for us because how are we supposed to be helping these people?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Spokespeople for Hochul and Schumer didn\u2019t immediately return requests for comment.\n                        <\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
