According to Oh, the second phase will involve making Metaverse Seoul more accessible to senior citizens who may have trouble commuting to city offices in person. More than 17% of South Korea\u2019s population was more than 65 years old as of 2022, according to <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/statistics\/995650\/south-korea-elderly-population-share\/\">data<\/a> from Statistica. <\/p>\n<p>South Korea, with one of the fastest internet connectivity speeds in the world for its 52 million residents, has led some of the initiatives around the metaverse and blockchain adoption as the space grows. Prior to FTX\u2019s collapse in November, the city of Busan announced plans to build a crypto exchange in collaboration with FTX \u2014 the local government subsequently dropped many of its global centralized exchange partners.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Related: <\/em><\/strong><strong><em>Inside South Korea\u2019s wild plan to dominate the metaverse<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Globally, interest in the metaverse reportedly surged following <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Facebook<\/a> rebranding to Meta in October 2021, with many companies announcing plans to open virtual offices.
