Trump, at the same point, had an approval rating of 37 percent.\u00a0Obama went on to win reelection relatively easily over Republican nominee Mitt Romney, while Trump lost his reelection bid in a close race\u00a0with Biden.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The White House is\u00a0dealing with a new controversy \u2014 the discovery of classified documents from Biden\u2019s time as vice president. Some were found at his residence and some at his former office in Washington, D.C.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Biden\u2019s aides have\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">general<\/a>ly shrugged off political worries about the controversy while noting that the White House Office of Counsel notified the National Archives of the discovery immediately. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Democrats have also suggested the public is more focused on the economy and pocketbook issues than the documents fight, especially with Trump facing his own classified documents controversy. \u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr2_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t think you\u2019re going to see much of an impact,\u201d said Rachel Bitecofer, the political scientist and strategist.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe public has spent years\u00a0marinating\u00a0in large daily scandal,\u201d Bitecofer said, reflecting on the Trump presidency. \u201cThere\u2019s massive scandal fatigue.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But it promises to be a nagging issue with Republicans planning investigations to keep the subject in the public eye. \u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr3_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>A Quinnipiac University poll out on Wednesday showed that 60 percent of those surveyed said they believe Biden acted inappropriately in retaining classified documents. Thirty-seven percent of those polled say Biden should face criminal charges. The poll included Democrats, Republicans and independent voters.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Democratic pollster Mark Mellman agreed that \u201canybody running for reelection would like to have better numbers\u201d than Biden is seeing right now as he plots out a possible reelection bid.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s no question Biden has to improve his numbers,\u201d Mellman said.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr4_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Still, he added, there\u2019s a considerable amount of time left before the 2024 election to make those gains and much of the calculus is also dependent on Biden\u2019s opponent.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s not a referendum. It\u2019s a choice,\u201d he noted. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>If Biden runs against former Trump, for example, Mellman predicted he would win.\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr5_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Trump has announced his own new bid for the White House, though he has not held a <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">series<\/a> of public events since doing so and has kept his public comments limited to his Truth Social account. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The former president is expected to face competition for the GOP presidential nomination \u2014\u00a0possibly from\u00a0Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The White House has recent to feel confident about a second battle against Trump. \u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr6_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>A Club for Growth survey out this month showed Trump trailing Biden by 8 points in a 2024 race. That poll followed a USA Today survey from last month showing Biden beating Trump by seven points, 47 percent to 40 percent.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen we do focus groups, even Republicans are kind of sick of Trump and the divisions he causes,\u201d\u00a0said Margie Omero, a Democratic pollster. \u201cThat comes out loud and clear.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This week, a WPA Intelligence Survey also found Biden trouncing Trump in a match-up, but it showed Biden losing to DeSantis 45 percent to 42 percent.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr7_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>The economy is likely to play a major role in Biden\u2019s fortunes, with fears of a recession circulating amid large layoffs in the tech sector from Microsoft and Google. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt this point, it could go either way for the President,\u201d the Democratic strategist said. \u201cIt\u2019s dependent on a number of factors\u201d including the strength of the economy and other major events. \u201cBut I think it\u2019s more likely that he pulls this out and defies expectations, as he\u2019s done in the past.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>While some Democrats have expressed concern that the documents scandal could bring down Biden in much the same way that Hillary Clinton\u2019s use of a private email server led to her loss in the 2016 presidential election, Bitecofer said she sees it differently.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s not to say there isn\u2019t a scandal and it doesn\u2019t matter,\u201d she said. \u201cThis is not going to be \u2018But her emails.\u2019 This country was very different. With what we\u2019ve been through scandal-wise, the bar is very, very high.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, the president sought to downplay the special counsel probe into the classified documents.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think you\u2019re going to find there\u2019s nothing there,\u201d a frustrated Biden told reporters in California, as he was surveying damage from the recent storms there. \u201cI\u2019m following what the lawyers have told me they want me to do. That\u2019s exactly what we\u2019re doing, there\u2019s no there there.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Mellman said the issues that come before Biden in the coming months will ultimately serve as the biggest indicator of the president\u2019s standing.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>If the country goes into a recession, for example, \u201cit\u2019ll be a tougher road to hoe for him.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are a lot of variables here that nobody can really predict,\u201d he said.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
