But before he could go deep on the subject, Jenkins had to clear his throat with a compliment. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    His partner, award-winning filmmaker Lulu Wang, is a huge fan of<em> Couples Therapy, <\/em>and she\u2019s seen all three seasons (more than once), and she\u2019s \u201cslowly\u201d been getting him to watch the Showtime <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">series<\/a>. Once he arrived at Sunday\u2019s panel, he realized the moderator was the same therapist from the series, so he im<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a>tely texted Wang. \u201cYou have to tell her how much I love the show,\u201d Jenkins said of Wang\u2019s response.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    With that compliment in the air, Jenkins answered Guralnik\u2019s first question of the day, a big one to tackle about what intimacy means to them on a personal level. When it came to Jenkins, he joked that \u201cas the resident male on the panel, I feel like I should say intimacy is taking out the trash and doing the dishes,\u201d to generous laughter from the crowd.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    \u201cTo me, intimacy in my current relationship is, I know what I want to be saying, I know what I think I should be saying,\u201d he said, adding, \u201cbut in here, I know what I\u2019m feeling and the most direct way is to watching your damn show multiple times.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    Jenkins shared a story from the set of the best picture-winning <em>Moonlight<\/em>, where he was directing the first kiss between actors Ashton Sanders and Jharrel Jerome. The pivotal scene on the beach marks the first exploration of Sanders\u2019 character Chiron\u2019s sexuality. \u201cNeither one of these kids have been in a movie or kissed anyone in a movie,\u201d\u00a0said the director, who had to ask as the psuedo intimacy-coordinator. \u201cThey have to make out in front of all of these people and all of these gruff dudes in the grip department.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    Jenkins recalled Jerome having some difficulties understanding the scenes and talked him through it by explaining that it was Chiron\u2019s first sexual experience, but it wasn\u2019t for Jerome\u2019s Kevin. \u201cHe trusts you, help him with that,\u201d Jenkins recalls of what he told Jerome, and from there, the actor understood. \u201cThe frame was set and the scene directed itself from there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    \u201cThe thing with making a film is that you can\u2019t know what is in each individual actor\u2019s head,\u201d said Jenkins, who noted that he did not have an intimacy coordinator on <em>Moonlight<\/em> or <em>If Beale Street Could Talk<\/em>. \u201cIt can be dangerous when one actor\u2019s presence is here and another actor\u2019s presence is over here. It is really wonderful to have these guidelines.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    Speaking of an actor\u2019s presence, it was announced at the top of the event that planned panelist Dakota Johnson had to drop out, citing a \u201cfamily emergency,\u201d per Sundance Institute\u2019s Joana Vicente. The panel also had other issues, specifically a \u201ctechnical issue\u201d that delayed the start more than an hour. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    Once it got going, the foursome contributed to an insightful conversation about changing protocols on set, their <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>roach to intimacy, consent and the mechanics of how things work these days in the wake of major changes as a result of the #MeToo movement. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    \u201cIt\u2019s really important that the actors have the autonomy to stop the action,\u201d said O\u2019Brien, who has worked on such projects as <em>Watchmen, Normal People, The Great, I May Destroy You, Industry, It\u2019s a Sin, Sex Education, The Last Duel<\/em> and the upcoming <em>Magic Mike\u2019s Last Dance<\/em>. She shared an example of recent work with an unnamed actor who, after having conversations with his partner, said that he would not be touching anyone\u2019s breasts or nipples and he didn\u2019t want any other actors touching his chest or nipples. \u201cAny inspiration you think you might go to is checked out, and so they don\u2019t have to worry about that. There\u2019s freedom [in that].\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    Jenkins generated a lot of laughter when he brought up sex scenes from previous decades. Jenkins said that watching films of the \u201970s, \u201980s and \u201990s, \u201cyou watch these movies and the sex is bad. It\u2019s so fucking bad. It\u2019s like, really, brah?
