wave of jobs cuts sweeping across the tech industry.<\/p>\n<p> Citing people familiar with the plans, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2023-01-23\/spotify-seen-cutting-staff-as-soon-as-this-week-to-cut-costs?sref=Oeyjq8by\" class=\"icon none\">Bloomberg News reported<\/a> late Sunday that the streaming music service faces imminent job cuts, though an exact number was not specified by sources.<\/p>\n<div class=\"paywall\">\n       In October, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GimletUnion\/status\/1578480649241260032\" class=\"icon none\">Spotify laid off at least 38 employees<\/a> at its Gimlet and Parcast podcast units. Last June, Spotify Chief Executive Daniel Ek told employees that the company would reduce hiring by 25%, according to <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2022-06-15\/spotify-spot-to-slow-hiring-plans-cites-economic-uncertainty?sref=Oeyjq8by\" class=\"icon none\">Bloomberg<\/a> and <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2022\/06\/15\/spotify-slowing-hiring-by-25percent-ceo-says.html\" class=\"icon none\">CNBC<\/a> reports.<\/p>\n<p>As of the end of its third quarter, Spotify had about 9,800 employees, according to its <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.spotify.com\/2022-10-25\/spotify-reports-third-quarter-2022-earnings\/\" class=\"icon none\">earnings report<\/a>. More than 55,000 tech workers have been laid off so far in 2023, according to the website <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/layoffs.fyi\/\" class=\"icon none\">Layoffs.fyi<\/a>, including 12,000 from Google parent Alphabet Inc., 10,000 from Microsoft Corp. and hundreds more from Intel Corp.<\/p>\n<p>Stockholm-based Spotify has been pressured by massive spending on podcasts in recent years, which have yet to deliver profits and have weighed on margins.
