They quickly reformulated assessments of the president\u2019s prolonged paper chase in Wilmington, Del., while suggesting low-level staff members may have mistakenly packed classified documents with Pence\u2019s personal papers before he left office.<\/p>\n<p>Pence is weighing a presidential race in 2024 and is on a book tour with a new memoir. The Justice Department and FBI are reviewing the discovery by his lawyer <strong>Matt Morgan<\/strong> according to<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/costareports\/status\/1617945946234687488\"> CBS News<\/a>, of about a dozen pages of material marked classified and stored at the former vice president\u2019s home. Pence says he\u2019s cooperating with the Justice Department and with congressional overseers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Can we all agree it shouldn\u2019t h<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>en<\/em>?\u201d Sen. <strong>Kevin Cramer<\/strong> (R-N.D.) said Tuesday during an interview on SiriusXM\u2019s \u201cThe Briefing with Steve Scully.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>And can we come up with a system that guarantees it won\u2019t happen again going forward?\u201d<\/em> he continued. <em>\u201cI know that this should be just built-in discipline, but we\u2019ve got to institutionalize that discipline so that there\u2019s some sort of a process where somebody other than the interns are packing your boxes before you leave the [vice presidential residence at the] Naval Observatory or the White House West Wing.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u25aa The Hill: The discovery of Pence\u2019s classified documents and their return to the government complicate efforts by congressional Republicans to attack Biden over his handling of sensitive materials dating to his years as vice president and senator.<\/p>\n<p>\u25aa The Hill: Pence\u2019s retention of vice presidential records clashes with his previous comments.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr2_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>\u25aa The Hill: Former <strong>President Trump<\/strong> defended Pence on<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@realDonaldTrump\/posts\/109745609909293294\"> social media<\/a> as an \u201cinnocent man.\u201d Trump is under criminal investigation by the Justice Department for possible obstruction after the FBI needed a subpoena to seize presidential records Trump initially claimed he did not possess. Agents last summer found<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2022\/08\/31\/trump-mar-a-lago-fbi-search-classified-documents\/\"> clearly marked classified materials<\/a> at his Mar-a-Lago estate.<\/p>\n<p>Until two special counsels assigned by the Justice Department are finished investigating the circumstances of Trump\u2019s withholding of classified records from the National Archives and Biden\u2019s rolling discoveries of past classified materials, House Republican investigators can convene oversight hearings but will gain scant sworn testimony or fresh information from the central players.<\/p>\n<p>Senators on both sides of the aisle were caught off guard Tuesday to learn about Pence\u2019s documents, The Hill\u2019s Al Weaver reports.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr3_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p><strong><em>\u201cI don\u2019t know what the hell is going on around here. It\u2019s the weirdest thing I\u2019ve ever seen,<\/em><\/strong><em>\u201d<\/em> Sen. <strong>Marco Rubio<\/strong> (Fla.), the top Republican on the Senate Intelligence Committee, told The Hill. <em>\u201c<strong>I have no reason to believe it\u2019s nefarious in any way, but clearly at the executive branch they\u2019re just packing boxes.<\/strong>\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Rubio on Tuesday told <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=vPehXNgm5bE\">Fox News<\/a>, \u201c<em>I think [Biden\u2019s handling of documents] is more concerning for the following reasons. Number one, we\u2019re talking about eight years of vice presidential service. Number two, and the one that\u2019s really bizarre, is [some of these] documents [are from Biden\u2019s years in] the Senate. \u2026 For a senator to take classified documents, they would have to do it almost deliberately.\u201d<\/em>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Rubio added, <em>\u201cThese are the kinds of things we need answers to right now. We\u2019re not getting any answers from the director of national intelligence, but we will. And I think there\u2019s a bipartisan commitment, frankly, to get those answers.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr4_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>The senator told reporters in the Capitol on Tuesday that he expects to discuss the controversy today when <strong>Avril Haines<\/strong>, director of national intelligence, appears before the Senate Intelligence Committee behind closed doors. Google earned about <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/digiday.com\/media\/the-rundown-here-are-the-2022-global-media-rankings-by-ad-spend-google-facebook-remain-dominate-alibaba-bytedance-in-the-mix\/\">$169 billion in digital ads worldwide<\/a> in 2022, but the vast majority of that revenue comes from search ads, or are ads that businesses place on user searches that might be relevant to them. It\u2019s the second Justice Department antitrust suit filed against the tech giant since 2020 (<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.vox.com\/recode\/2023\/1\/24\/23569609\/google-antitrust-lawsuit-digital-ads\">Vox<\/a> and The Hill). Attorney <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">General<\/a> <strong>Merrick Garland<\/strong> at a press conference called Google\u2019s practices a 15-year illegal monopolization \u201cscheme.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWebsite creators earn less, and advertisers pay more,\u201d<\/em> Garland said.<\/p>\n<p>Google called the complaint \u201cflawed,\u201d and alleged it would hamper competition, but progressives welcomed the lawsuit.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cAs the Justice Department\u2019s suit meticulously documents, Google is a buyer, broker, and digital advertising exchange with pervasive conflicts of interest,\u201d<\/em> <strong>Matt Stoller<\/strong> with the American Economic Liberties Project,<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2023\/01\/24\/new-doj-lawsuit-could-break-up-google-00079229\"> told Politico<\/a>. <em>\u201cGoogle regularly abuses this power, manipulating markets, muscling out any form of competition, and inspiring fear across the commercial landscape.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The Treasury Department has suspended new investments in a federal retirement program, the latest in a string of actions it has taken to prevent default after the government hit its debt ceiling, Treasury Secretary <strong>Janet Yellen<\/strong> told congressional leaders Tuesday.
