Trump has sent mixed messages about whether he will return to the platforms after communicating mainly through his own social media site, Truth Social.<\/p>\n<p>He responded to Meta\u2019s announcement Wednesday by criticizing the initial decision to suspend him. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cFACEBOOK, which has lost Billions of Dollars in value since \u2018deplatforming\u2019 your favorite President, me, has just announced that they are reinstating my account. Such a thing should never again happen to a sitting President, or anybody else who is not deserving of retribution!\u201d he wrote. <\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr2_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Meta said that the lifting of Trump\u2019s ban is also coming with new guardrails to deter repeat offenders, including heightened penalties for public figures who are returning from suspension related to civil unrest. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe public should be able to hear what their politicians are saying \u2014 the good, the bad and the ugly \u2014 so that they can make informed choices at the ballot box,\u201d Meta added in a statement announcing its decision.<\/p>\n<p>However, Meta added that it does not mean there are \u201cno limits\u201d to what people can say on its platforms.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr3_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>\u201cWhen there is a clear risk of real world harm \u2014 a deliberately high bar for Meta to intervene in public discourse \u2014 we act,\u201d it added.<\/p>\n<p>Under the new protocols, Trump\u2019s content could be removed and he could face another suspension of between one month and two years, according to the company.<\/p>\n<p>Meta\u2019s Oversight Board, which is the body that makes content moderation decisions on Facebook and Instagram,\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/oversightboard.com\/news\/6274494105946760-oversight-board-response-to-meta-s-announcement-on-former-president-trump\/\">said in a statement<\/a>\u00a0after the announcement that it had no role in deciding whether to allow Trump back on the sites.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr4_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>\u201cToday\u2019s decision to reinstate Mr. Trump on Meta\u2019s platforms sat with Meta alone \u2014 the Board did not have a role in the decision,\u201d the board said.<\/p>\n<p><em>Updated at 5:34 p.m. <\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
