\n From the right: Trump\u2019s Surprises Are Working<\/strong><\/p>\n

The GOP convention \u201cis the Trump presidency in microcosm,\u201d notes The Washington Free Beacon\u2019s Matthew Continetti: \u201cPrecedent is overturned\u201d and \u201cnorms disregarded\u201d to serve the Americans in the Trump coalition \u2014 \u201cand the whole thing makes for great television.\u201d Even with the first lady speaking on Night Two, \u201cthe real stars\u201d included \u201ca Maine lobsterman, a Wisconsin dairy farmer, a truck driver from Ohio and a \u00adpolice officer from New Mexico who adopted the child of a woman \u00adaddicted to opiates.\u201d And the president\u2019s surprise pardon and naturalization ceremony \u201cworked, both as political theater and as campaign strategy,\u201d because \u201cTrump\u2019s interactions with normal Americans humanize him.\u201d In short, \u201cDemocrats have reason to worry.\u201d<\/p>\n

Culture critic: Activists Target the Powerless<\/strong><\/p>\n

The videos of DC-area Black Lives Matter activists \u201charassing diners \u2014 surrounding them, screaming in their faces, declaring that anyone who doesn\u2019t raise a fist in solidarity is a white supremacist\u201d \u2014 are worse than footage of actual riots, writes John Daniel Davidson at The Federalist. They offer a \u201cglimpse\u201d of how \u201cthe attention and ire of the social<\/a>-justice mob\u201d winds up targeting \u201cordinary people minding their own business.\u201d The harassment is \u201cthe kind of thing people do when they feel they are ascendant\u201d \u2014 because the politicians have been app<\/a>easing them even when they riot and set cities across the nation on fire. \u201cHaving learned that the people in power will not stand up to them, they turn their attention to people with no power.\u201d In all, \u201cthese are not people who really care all that much about . . . ushering in a more peaceful and just society. . . . They want one thing: to rule you.\u201d<\/p>\n

Riot watch: The Damage in Minneapolis<\/strong><\/p>\n

Three months after the George Floyd killing, \u201cthe Twin Cities are still reeling,\u201d as Nic Rowan shows in a photo essay at The American Spectator. The damage is vast: In the Third Police Precinct, the center of the violence, \u201cwindows were smashed, stores were looted and whole strip<\/a> malls were torched. You probably saw the videos when national attention was fixed on Minneapolis in June. What you couldn\u2019t see was that the damage goes on for three miles.\u201d For example: \u201cThe corner where the burned-out husk of the precinct stands is unrecognizable from how it looked when I visited last summer. The Target, which was looted throughout the worst of the riots, is closed.\u201d Many other sites are the same. \u201cIt will take years for this section of the city to recover.\u201d<\/p>\n

RNC journal: Blacks Aren\u2019t Beholden to Dems<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cKentucky Attorney General<\/a> Daniel Cameron, praised for his speech at the Republican National Convention,\u201d declared that \u201cPresident Trump and the GOP are the party of law and order,\u201d reports FoxNews<\/a>.com\u2019s \u00adCaleb Parke. \u201cWe cannot stand for lawlessness and chaos in this country,\u201d Cameron said. Cameron, Kentucky\u2019s first African-American attorney general, told Parke that Democratic nominee Joe Biden\u2019s remarks on blacks show he is \u201ctaking our vote for granted.\u201d He added: \u201cBlack folks are not monolithic in our thinking. We are the only group of individuals that is told we have to subscribe to one party,\u201d namely, the Democrats. \u201cI\u2019m here to say, enough is enough, and I know that there are millions of African-Americans who look just like me [and] who aren\u2019t in chains and have minds of their own to articulate their views and their values.\u201d<\/p>\n

Economist: Biden\u2019s Tax Plan Lowers Incomes<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cJoe Biden is running for president on a pledge to return the country to economic policies responsible for the slowest economic recovery since World War II,\u201d snarks Noah Williams at City Journal. His tax hikes would \u201cgo far beyond\u201d undoing President Trump\u2019s $1.5 trillion tax cuts, jacking up levies $4 trillion and likely shaving at least a half or a full percentage point from GDP growth. The plan would hit businesses hard, \u201cleading to lower wages for workers\u201d and \u201cless investment.\u201d It might even be \u201ccounterproductive in raising tax revenue.\u201d Bottom line: Biden\u2019s hikes \u201cwould be partly shifted onto workers\u201d and \u201cput the brakes on economic growth.\u201d<\/p>\n
