Even if you already have backups on multiple\u00a0physical hard drives, backing up to iCloud gives you an all-important offsite backup. That makes backups one of the best uses of spare iCloud storage.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s also smart to make sure your data is all backed up when it\u2019s time to upgrade phones\u00a0so y ou can set it up in a snap from the data in iCloud. The same <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>lies for\u00a0upgrading to a new version of iOS, just in case something goes wrong.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, you will have to make sure you have enough storage in your iCloud account. How much you need will depend on how much data you have stored on your iPhone, but you\u2019ll get a notification if your storage isn\u2019t big enough when you initiate the back up. There are a few things you can do to free up space, and if you can\u2019t make room you do have a few options for saving money on an iCloud storage upgrade. Be prepared for some frustration, though, because as we\u2019ve made clear iCloud\u2019s tier scheme is in need of an update.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Whats_Included_in_the_Backup\"><\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" name=\"autotoc_anchor_1\">What\u2019s Included in the Backup?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Whether you perform a manual backup to iCloud or set up automatic backups that run each day, the same items normally stored on your physical device will back up to iCloud. Here are the things\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/support.apple.com\/en-us\/HT207428\">included in the backup<\/a>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>App data<\/li>\n<li>iPhone settings<\/li>\n<li>Home screen and app layout<\/li>\n<li>iMessage, SMS, and MMS messages<\/li>\n<li>Photos and videos<\/li>\n<li>Purchase history from the App Store, Books Store, and iTunes<\/li>\n<li>Ringtones<\/li>\n<li>Visual Voicemail<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Additionally, if you use iOS 11 or earlier, voice memos are included. And, if you own an Apple Watch, those backups are also included unless you use <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/support.apple.com\/en-us\/HT211768\">Family Setup for your Watch<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Many other items on your iPhone already get backed up to iCloud by default, and they include contacts, calendars, notes, reminders, voice memos, bookmarks, iCloud messages, and iCloud photos.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_to_Sync_an_iPhone_Back_Up_to_iCloud\"><\/span>How to Sync an\u00a0iPhone Back Up to iCloud<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>You can perform a one-time,\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/447130\/how-to-backup-and-restore-your-iphone-or-ipad-without-itunes\/\">manual backup of your iPhone to iCloud. This is a good option if you just purchased a new iPhone or are preparing to update your version of iOS but don\u2019t want to have your data backed up every day. Even if you\u2019ve already set up automatic updates, this will force iCloud to update.<\/p>\n<p>Make sure you\u2019re connected to Wi-Fi and then open the Settings on your iPhone. This can be from one of the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>If you don\u2019t have enough iCloud storage space available for your backup, you\u2019ll see a notification. You can then follow the prompts to upgrade your iCloud storage plan.<\/li>\n<li>If you have iCloud backups turned off for any of your apps, you\u2019ll see a notification.
