title=\"Technology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">technology<\/a> sector employees have been laid off in the first few weeks of 2023, according to data compiled by the website Layoffs.fyi.<\/p>\n<p> The website\u2019s tally of global tech layoffs in 2023 has more than doubled since last week, when it recorded just over 25,000 layoffs.<\/p>\n<div class=\"paywall\">\n       The data suggest 2023 is on pace to surpass 2022 for global tech redundancies, with 219 tech companies laying off 68,149 employees in the first few weeks of the year. Last year, 1,024 tech companies laid off 154,336 employees, according to\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/layoffs.fyi\/\" class=\"icon none\">Layoffs.fyi<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Related:<\/strong>\u00a0More than 25,000 global tech workers laid off in the first weeks of 2023, says layoff tracking site<\/p>\n<p>Layoffs.fyi was set up by San Francisco\u2013based startup founder\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rogerlee.com\/\" class=\"icon none\">Roger Lee<\/a>\u00a0to track layoffs during the COVID-19 pandemic. Lee is the co-founder of Human Interest, a digital 401(k) provider for small businesses, and Comprehensive, an employee-compensation platform.<\/p>\n<p>Major U.S. tech companies are firmly in the\u00a0layoffs spotlight.\u00a0This week International Business Machines Corp.<br \/>\n        IBM,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/203856914\/composite\" class=\"negative\">-0.04%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       and SAP<br \/>\n        SAP,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/207905606\/composite\" class=\"negative\">-0.78%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       announced layoffs. Last week Google parent Alphabet Inc.\u00a0<br \/>\n        GOOGL,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/202490156\/lastsale\" class=\"positive\">+1.90%<\/bg-quote><\/p>\n<p>        GOOG,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/205453964\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+1.56%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       confirmed plans to lay off about 12,000 workers globally, and Intel Corp.\u00a0<br \/>\n        INTC,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/203649727\/composite\" class=\"negative\">-6.41%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       said it was slashing\u00a0hundreds of jobs\u00a0in Silicon Valley. Microsoft Corp.<br \/>\n        MSFT,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/207732364\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+0.06%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       confirmed\u00a0plans to cut about 10,000 positions.<\/p>\n<p>The software maker\u2019s layoffs did not come completely out of the blue. Earlier reports from Sky <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">News<\/a> and Bloomberg indicated that Microsoft\u00a0was preparing to make cuts.<\/p>\n<p><strong>See Now: Spotify joins Google, Intel, Microsoft, Amazon, Salesforce and other major companies laying off thousands of people<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Spotify Technology<br \/>\n        SPOT,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/207488629\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+0.93%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       has also joined the list of companies making layoffs.
