All three were directed by James Cameron.<\/p>\n<p>Globally, \u201cThe Way of Water\u201d has now grossed an estimated $2.1 billion, passing \u201cStar Wars: The Force Awakens,&#8221; to become the fourth-highest grossing film of all time (of which Cameron has directed three).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJames Cameron just keeps ticking off all the records and milestones,\u201d said Paul Dergarabedian, the senior <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a> analyst for Comscore. \u201cAnd it&#8217;s still got a wide-open marketplace.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Second place went to Universal and DreamWorks\u2019 family-oriented offering \u201cPuss In Boots: The Last Wish,\u201d which made $10.6 million in its sixth weekend. The animated spinoff has earned over $140.8 million in North America and was recently made available to stream at home, too.<\/p>\n<p>Third place went to Sony&#8217;s \u201cA Man Called Otto&#8221; with $6.8 million from 3,957 locations. The meme-able horror \u201cM3GAN,\u201d a Universal release, snuck into fourth place with $6.4 million in its fourth weekend, bringing its domestic total to $82.3 million.<\/p>\n<p>The Indian film \u201cPathaan,\u201d starring Shah Rukh Kha in his first role in five years, settled in fifth place with $5.9 million from only 695 screens.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA top five <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>earance is really impressive,\u201d Dergarabedian said, noting that the marketplace over the past several years has presented opportunities for Indian films to break into the domestic top 10.<\/p>\n<p>Neon also launched the horror movie \u201cInfinity Pool,\u201d written and directed by Brandon Cronenberg and starring Mia Goth and Alexander Skarsg\u00e5rd, in 1,853 locations following its Sundance debut. It made an estimated $2.7 million. The romantic comedy \u201cMaybe I Do,\u201d with Diane Keaton, Richard Gere and Susan Sarandan, made $562,000 from 465 screens. And Lukas Dhont\u2019s Cannes-winning boyhood drama \u201cClose\u201d opened on four screens in New York and Los Angeles, earning $68,143.<\/p>\n<p>Many studios boasting best picture nominees also chose to capitalize on the buzz of Tuesday\u2019s Oscar nominations with sizable re-releases. \u201cEverything Everywhere All At Once,\u201d which got <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/2023-oscar-nominations-f10835dc948d9a1b5535e8da9aaab8fb\" data-ylk=\"slk:a leading 11 nominations\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">a leading 11 nominations<\/a>, came back to theaters in force playing on 1,400 screens where it earned another $1 million. The A24 release has made $71 million domestically to date. Steven Spielberg\u2019s \u201cThe Fabelmans,\u201d nominated for seven Oscars, also expanded to 1,962 screens in North America and took in an additional $760,000, bringing its domestic total to $16 million. And Sarah Polley\u2019s \u201cWomen Talking\u201d also added a few hundred screens, earning $1 million over the weekend. It\u2019s made $2.4 million to date. The Oscar boosts could continue over the coming weeks, too \u2014 the show isn&#8217;t until March 12.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are seeing in real time the halo effect of the Oscar nominations on these best picture nominees,\u201d Dergarbedian said. \u201cThe Oscar bounce is back, something we haven\u2019t seen over the past couple of years.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Several of the highest profile releases of the weekend were both star-driven comedies that went straight to streaming: Netflix had \u201cYou People,\u201d with Eddie Murphy, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Jonah Hill and Lauren London and Amazon Prime Video offered \u201cShotgun Wedding,\u201d with Jennifer Lopez, Josh Duhamel and Jennifer Coolidge.<\/p>\n<p>Seven weekends into \u201cAvatar 2,\u201d theater owners are also likely looking for the next big blockbuster, which is still a ways off. \u201cAnt-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania\u201d doesn\u2019t arrive in theaters until Feb. 17.<\/p>\n<p>But, as Dergarabedian said, \u201c2023 is already looking more like 2019 rather than the last three years.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is great <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a> for theaters,\u201d he said. &#8220;You have the Oscar bounce in play, an Indian film in the top 5 and \u2018Avatar\u2019 breaking records left and right.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at U.S. and Canadian theaters, according to Comscore, with Wednesday through Sunday in parentheses.
