The affected users created a Telegram group chat to <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/t.me\/exchange_block\/2\">report<\/a> about the issues, stating that the accounts were blocked without a warning.<\/p>\n<p>The members of the group \u2014 now counting more than 1,000 members \u2014 promptly drew parallels between the blockages and enforcement action against the crypto firm Bitzlato by the United States Department of Justice. The U.S. Financial Crimes Enforcement Network also listed Binance among the top Bitcoin (BTC) counterparties of Bitzlato.<\/p>\n<p>Many chat members have openly admitted that they used Bitzlato, including incoming and outgoing transactions between Bitzlato and Binance accounts. Some affected users also expressed outrage and confusion about the action against Bitzlato.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThough I haven\u2019t been banned anywhere yet, I just lost some on BTC-e, Wex, now it\u2019s Bitzlato, but I consider these bans to be lawlessness,\u201d one chat member <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/t.me\/exchange_block\/3273\">wrote<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBlockages in relation to Bitzlato are nonsense. They haven\u2019t been proven guilty so far as there are only accusations, so how can this money be dirty?\u201d another user <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/t.me\/exchange_block\/3696\">asked<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson for Binance told Cointelegraph that the recent suspensions were indeed connected to Bitzlato. \u201cLast week, our compliance and investigations team, in relation to the Bitzlato case, suspended some users\u2019 accounts from several countries including in Eastern Europe and the CIS,\u201d the representative stated.<\/p>\n<p>Binance\u2019s spokesperson emphasized that the majority of the suspensions were temporary, stating:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cAt the moment, more than 90% of the accounts have been unlocked, users have been notified about this. All funds are safe. Affected users \u2014 less than 20 \u2014 have been provided with relevant law enforcement contact information.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The crypto exchange also advised users to have a look at Binance\u2019s article on multiple reasons why their Binance account might be <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.binance.com\/en\/blog\/ecosystem\/my-account-is-locked-what-do-i-do-3129250400431486605\">blocked<\/a> and what to do in such a situation.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Related: <\/em><\/strong><strong><em>Binance SWIFT banking partner set to ban USD transfers below $100K<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As previously reported, Bitzlato was a little-known cryptocurrency service allowing users to trade crypto via an exchange and peer-to-peer services. The platform is known to maintain significant operations in Russia, allegedly operating from the Federation Tower skyscraper in Moscow.<\/p>\n<p>According to allegations by the U.S. government, Bitzlato <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/usao-edny\/pr\/founder-and-majority-owner-bitzlato-cryptocurrency-exchange-charged-unlicensed-money\">ran<\/a> its operations without proper Know Your Customer procedures, which helped it become a \u201ca haven for criminal proceeds and funds intended for use in criminal activity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><template data-name=\"subscription_form\" data-type=\"crypto_biz\"><\/template><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
