Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), seeking all documents and communications related to the investigation, including correspondence with Biden\u2019s attorneys and those related to the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ointment of a special counsel.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr1_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>\u201cYour letter also requests non-public information that is central to the ongoing Special Counsel investigation. The Department\u2019s longstanding policy is to maintain the confidentiality of such information regarding open matters,\u201d the DOJ says in the letter obtained by The Hill and first reported by Politico.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDisclosures to Congress about active investigations risk jeopardizing those investigations and creating the appearance that Congress may be exerting improper political pressure or attempting to influence Department decisions in certain cases.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Attorney <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">General<\/a> Merrick Garland earlier this month appointed Robert Hur to serve as the special counsel in an investigation into classified records that were found in an office Biden used following his tenure in the Obama administration as well as in his Delaware home and garage.<\/p>\n<p>Garland has similarly appointed a special counsel to review the mishandling of classified records recovered from former President Trump\u2019s home during the execution of a search warrant after authorities determined there could still be materials on site despite multiple requests to return them.<\/p>\n<p>The request from Jordan would require a significant disclosure during an ongoing investigation, something the DOJ says clashes with its internal policies as well as special counsel regulations limiting what information can be shared with Congress.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDisclosing non-public information about ongoing investigations could violate statutory requirements or court orders, reveal road maps of our investigations, and interfere with the Department\u2019s ability to gather facts, interview witnesses, and bring criminal prosecutions where warranted,\u201d the department continued, noting it needs to protect the confidentiality of those \u201cimplicated by, or who assist in, our investigations.\u201d<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr2_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Russell Dye, a spokesman for Jordan, couched the response as a lack of cooperation from the DOJ.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur Members are rightly concerned about the Justice Department\u2019s double standard here, after all, some of the Biden documents were found at a think tank that\u2019s received funds from communist China. It\u2019s concerning, to say the least, that the Department is more interested in playing politics than cooperating,\u201d he said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>The claim involving China is one the Penn Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement denies.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr3_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>The\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/oversight.house.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/2023-01-18-Letter-UPenn-Penn-Biden-Center.pdf\">GOP has pointed to<\/a>\u00a0the number of donations to the University of Pennsylvania from China after the formation of the center bearing Biden\u2019s name.<\/p>\n<p>But the center has denied any improper connection, noting the gifts were not made directly to the center.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne hundred percent of the budget for the Penn Biden Center comes from university funds,\u201d a spokesman for the university told\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/biden-documents-house-oversight-committee-james-comer-university-of-pennsylvania\/\">CBS News<\/a><strong>.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr4_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>\u201cThe Penn Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement was founded on the principle that a democratic, open, secure, tolerant, and interconnected world benefits all Americans,\u201d the spokesman said. \u201cIt is important to reiterate that the Penn Biden Center has never solicited or received any gifts from any Chinese or other foreign entity.
