More sessions rolled in, and Nova Wav wound up penning four songs on Beyonc\u00e9 and Jay-Z\u2019s collaborative album, <em><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_kAtVOORRHrvDEoqgySPEYbGCRJId85Qo4\">Everything Is Love<\/a><\/em>, as well as Bey\u2019s<em> <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_nkj8U4dj1uSMUhZsAp0R3TpYH0xWvbcPc\">The Lion King: The Gift<\/a><\/em>, including the Juneteenth anthem <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=EJT1m1ele00\">\u201cBlack Parade.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    On <em><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_kRpd1gRFR39i-C0GPyGpm1efJFjSs-GOc\">Renaissance<\/a><\/em>, the superstar\u2019s daring exploration of dance and house music, Blu June and Chi not only co-wrote eight of the 16 songs, they co-produced five tracks; Chi also engineered some of the songs, and Blu June sings background on <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=e_aT9pAGQo8\">\u201cAlien Superstar\u201d<\/a> and <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=WM133A3vqLE\">\u201cPure\/Honey.\u201d<\/a> Now the duo is nominated for three Grammy Awards, including album of the year for <em>Renaissance<\/em> and best R&amp;B song for the viral hit <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=yrtWLyp5gLI\">\u201cCuff It.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    \u201cI would definitely credit Bey as the artist who has allowed us to evolve as creators,\u201d Blu June tells <em>THR<\/em>. \u201cThe level of trust is impeccable. We aren\u2019t who we were 10 years ago when we were sending Beyonc\u00e9 records, but she could still see and hear the potential. We were always given chances, and we stepped up to the plate. Everything is timing, and it is our time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    Adds Chi: \u201cA lot of our blessings come from us understanding what it means to be patient \u2014 we play chess and not checkers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    The songwriter-producers met in 2009 through a mutual friend \u2014 Blu June was living in her hometown of Tallahassee, Florida, and Chi was based in Atlanta \u2014 and worked virtually to create music. Blu June eventually joined Chi by moving to the A, and the duo earned their first placement with Rihanna\u2019s \u201c<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=WdaxFK66VNM&amp;list=OLAK5uy_kT7kitTDBns-tLp79XX8oFzleg5CEWC8g&amp;index=5\">Loveeeeeee Song<\/a>\u201d from her Grammy-winning 2012 album <em><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_kT7kitTDBns-tLp79XX8oFzleg5CEWC8g\">Unapologetic<\/a><\/em>. But Chi\u2019s name didn\u2019t <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ear in the songwriting credits. \u201c[Chi] was absolutely a part of that record. We actually created that record together. It was just some industry BS, but we ain\u2019t even going to give that no energy,\u201d Blu June explains.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    The song was an album favorite and reached platinum status even though it wasn\u2019t a single, making it clear that Nova Wav had the juice. More platinum hits \u2014 like Kehlani\u2019s <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=2d7U4CX0PHk\">\u201cCRZY,\u201d<\/a> Nicki Minaj\u2019s <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=C3a1sz2Bp_E\">\u201cMegatron,\u201d<\/a> Teyana Taylor\u2019s <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=9aAb2H2IVbA\">\u201cGonna Love Me,\u201d<\/a> Jazmine Sullivan\u2019s <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=ZeP--wHHiy8\">\u201cPick Up Your Feelings\u201d<\/a> and DJ Khaled\u2019s <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=uzaQ37EYJ1k\">\u201cJust Us\u201d<\/a> and <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=HNW5_q08gkA\">\u201cYou Stay\u201d<\/a> \u2014 poured out of them. They also crafted songs for Britney Spears, Ariana Grande, Kelly Clarkson, H.E.R., Zayn, Meek Mill, Saweetie, Jason Derulo, Pop Smoke, Kelly Rowland, Lukas Graham, Ludacris, Keyshia Cole and Monica, whose Nova Wav-produced single, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=iojHMIAnJz4\">\u201cCommitment,\u201d<\/a> topped <em>Billboard<\/em>\u2019s Adult R&amp;B Songs chart.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    The duo \u2014 also nominated for their work on Mary J. Blige\u2019s <em><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_mq9kgAIK9A0ooxKqOk-bpIcEl1RbEop6o\">Good Morning Gorgeous<\/a>,<\/em> up for album of the year \u2014 says they feel honored to help tell stories, particularly narratives about issues that resonate personally. Says Chi: \u201cWe\u2019re talking about Black women moguls. We were on top of that shit. There\u2019s a level of trust and level of respect we have with them, and it feels really good. Typically, producers (who work on the beat) will earn an advance when working on a song, while writers (lyrics and melody) get paid through royalties if the song performs well or is promoted as a single. Nova Wav says too many times songwriters produce but don\u2019t get the full credit. \u201cFor the most part, the words are 50 percent and the music is 50 percent, and that should be allocated differently,\u201d says Chi. \u201cSongwriters should be respected way more than what\u2019s going on.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    To make the playing field even, Nova Wav \u2014 when working on a song as writers not producers \u2014 will request a songwriting fee. (\u201cPeople haven\u2019t been excited about it, but I mean, that\u2019s the way it should be,\u201d Chi adds.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    Navigating the music industry has been a roller coaster, but Chi and Blu June say they feel deeply close to each other, a connection they liken to psychic abilities. \u201cIt\u2019s been very magical,\u201d Blu June says. \u201cIt\u2019s the chemistry, the intuitiveness, the togetherness.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    Adds Chi: \u201cPeople talk about loyalty a lot, and it\u2019s a word that they throw around but don\u2019t understand. And we really had to stand on that. We were tested a lot. People are going to try to come in between and divide you and get you to go one way or the other, but you\u2019ve got to stay firm on what you believe in.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    Their bond is stronger than ever, and it\u2019s the third consecutive year that Nova Wav have been nominated for multiple Grammys. Their first nominations came in 2021, when they were up for song of the year and best R&amp;B song for \u201cBlack Parade\u201d and best contemporary Christian music performance\/song for co-writing Lecrae and Kirk Franklin\u2019s <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=1MPprKtO7Ug\">\u201cSunday Morning.\u201d<\/a> Last year they competed for album of the year thanks to their work on <em><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_knaObXJ83FqUWQ_BFJ9D_0UC9y0G6DGXw\">Back on My Mind<\/a> <\/em>by H.E.R. and best R&amp;B song for Jazmine Sullivan\u2019s \u201cPick Up Your Feelings\u201d \u2014 the song that won Sullivan her first Grammy in another category.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    \u201cI remember sitting at my job when I was in Tallahassee, and Jazmine had a song with the lyrics, \u2018I gotta dream big\/ \u2018Cause when it happens, it\u2019s gone happen real quick.\u2019 I really identified with that song, and 10 years later to have a song with her, it\u2019s like, \u2018Wow. Full circle moment,\u2019\u201d Blu June recalls.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    Now, Nova Wav wants to win their first Gramophone, and they have a strong chance since \u201cCuff It,\u201d which recently cracked the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and has had an explosive run on TikTok, is the frontrunner in the best R&amp;B song category.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    \u201cTo help create a record like that during the pandemic when nobody was outside and to make a feel-good record like that basically out of thin air \u2014 it\u2019s just God and us putting in a lot of work. These are the moments we worked hard for,\u201d Blu June says. \u201cIt honestly feels the best because it\u2019s with Bey, the person who really gave us a real chance.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    Nova Wav has worked with everyone \u2014 but they still aspire for more. The two have a starry wish list of potential collaborators, including Adele, Drake, Doja Cat, The Weeknd, City Girls \u2014 and that superstar singer and upcoming halftime show performer whose next album has been heavily anticipated since the 2016 release of <em>Anti<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    \u201cRihanna, we are waiting on you, girl,\u201d Chi says. \u201cWe are waiting for you to call.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    \u201cWe\u2019re going to manifest this Rihanna single,\u201d Blu June says, before Chi jumps in with: \u201cAlbum!
