\n Military veteran and Long Island Rep. Lee Zeldin touted President Trump as the candidate to lead America out of the coronavirus pandemic Wednesday night at the 2020 Republican National Convention \u2014 citing all that he\u2019s already delivered.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I learned my county\u2019s PPE stockpile was depleted, I immedia<\/a>tely thought of those health-care workers who saved my baby girls,\u201d said Zeldin, who earlier spoke of his children\u2019s triumph over neonatal health challenges. \u201cJared Kushner [Trump\u2019s advisor and son-in-law] and I were on the phone late into that Saturday night.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe very next day, President Trump announced he was sending us 200,000 N-95 masks,\u201d said Zeldin, who represents central and eastern Suffolk County. \u201cHe actually delivered almost 400,000.\u201d<\/p>\n

Zeldin also detailed Trump\u2019s efforts to bolster his home state with ventilators, diagnostic tests and hospital beds at the USNS Comfort and Javits Center.<\/p>\n

\u201cDuring a once-in-a-century pandemic \u2014 an unforeseeable crisis sent to us from a faraway land \u2014 the president\u2019s effort for New York was phenomenal,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n

Zeldin, 40, is a rare but outspoken pro-Trump lawmaker in downstate New York.<\/p>\n

Zeldin was a fitting speaker for the RNC\u2019s third night, which celebrated America as the \u201cLand of Heroes.\u201d<\/p>\n

He served from 2003 to 2007 with the US Army in the Iraq War, before transitioning into the Army Reserve where he now holds the rank of lieutenant colonel.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are the land of the free because of the brave, and we are the land of opportunity because we have a president who wants to empower the best of who we are, to be the best of what we can be,\u201d he said, delivering remarks from a VFW hall in Westhampton Beach.<\/p>\n

Zeldin, like Trump, is an avowed supporter of Israel, and was app<\/a>ointed part of the team defending the president from Democrats\u2019 impeachment bid.<\/p>\n

But Zeldin has broken from Trump on occasion.<\/p>\n

In October 2019, the veteran signed a bipartisan House resolution rebuking the president for withdrawing US troops from Syria, a tactical decision that paved the way for a Turkish incursion against America\u2019s Kurdish allies.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
