After briefly <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">travel<\/a>ing through Canadian airspace, it returned to the U.S. via Idaho on Jan. 31 and spent the rest of the week traversing the country.<\/p>\n<p>Beijing confirmed on Friday that the balloon was Chinese, but claimed that it was primarily used for meteorological research and had been blown off course.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Chinese side regrets the unintended entry of the airship into US airspace due to force majeure,\u201d a ministry spokesperson said.<\/p>\n<p>However, American officials have maintained that the balloon was surveilling \u201cstrategic sites\u201d within the U.S., leading Secretary of State Antony Blinken to postpone his trip to Beijing on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have noted the [People\u2019s Republic of China] statement of regret, but the presence of this balloon in our airspace is a clear violation of our sovereignty as well as international law, and it is unacceptable that this has occurred,\u201d a senior State Department official said.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr2_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>The Chinese Foreign Ministry hit back at the U.S. on Saturday in a statement, alleging that some politicians and the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a> have \u201chyped\u201d up the situation in order to \u201cattack and smear China.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. military waited to shoot down the balloon until Saturday afternoon, when it was over water off the coast of South Carolina, due to safety concerns.
