According to the agencies, some of the aforementioned IRAs could offer exposure to crypto assets that qualify as securities \u201cwithout SEC registration or a valid exemption from registration\u201d and without providing the information necessary to make informed decisions on investments.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome self-directed IRAs may offer investments in \u2018crypto assets\u2019 such as \u2018virtual currencies,\u2019 \u2018coins,\u2019 and \u2018tokens\u2019,\u201d said the notice. \u201cMany of the trading platforms for these crypto assets refer to themselves as \u2018exchanges,\u2019 which may give investors the misimpression that they have registered with the SEC.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">INVESTOR ALERT: Self-directed IRAs allow investment in a broader and potentially riskier portfolio of assets than other types of IRAs. In November, New York Attorney <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">General<\/a> Letitia James recommended prohibiting crypto investments in defined contribution plans and IRAs.
