The firm provides cryptocurrency custody and trading services and is one of the few firms in the country having the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>roval to deal with banks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt&#8217;s quite complicated,\u201d Sterk said of the current legal situation for crypto in Israel.<\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.cointelegraph.com\/uploads\/2023-02\/de0e1e78-84d0-42ac-90c7-61661b57f36b.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\"><figcaption style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Ilan Sterk,\u00a0CEO, Altshuler Shaham Horizon. Source: <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Facebook<\/a><\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>He explained the current proposal is to have digital assets under the supervision of the Israel Securities Authority (ISA), the nation\u2019s securities regulator.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo classify a digital asset as a security, it\u2019s changing everything here,\u201d he said. Sterk didn\u2019t think the current proposal would be enacted as is, saying he was \u201cnot sure it will be the same as they want to be,\u201d and added:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cYou cannot classify all the digital assets as securities because it will kill the industry.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The ISA released a proposal in early January that would give the regulator sweeping new powers to police the Israeli crypto industry.<\/p>\n<p>It seeks to amend the definition of securities to include \u201cdigital assets\u201d used for financial investment. It clarified the definition of \u201cdigital assets\u201d as a digital \u201crepresentation\u201d of value or rights used for financial investment.<\/p>\n<p>The ISA also seeks powers to oversee the crypto industry and wants the reins to set requirements for issuers and intermediaries and also impose sanctions for non-compliance.<\/p>\n<p>Under the ISA\u2019s proposal, issuers of digital assets would be required to publish a prospectus-like document before issuing or registering digital assets for trading.<\/p>\n<p>The public has until Feb. 12 to provide comments and feedback on the matter.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the Ministry of Finance laid out its recommendations for crypto industry regulations in November last year.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Related: <\/em><\/strong><strong><em>Israeli court rules authorities can seize crypto in 150 blacklisted wallets<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Among the proposals was one which allowed crypto service providers to operate in Israel, at least temporarily, if they had a parallel license from abroad.<\/p>\n<p>Sterk said the proposal would \u201cmake some lives a little bit easy\u201d regarding the operations of foreign crypto exchanges in Israel as a license in the country \u201ccan take up to two, three or four years to get.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to the latest January figures from the ISA, it estimated there were around 150 companies operating in the local crypto industry, and more than 200,000 Israelis invested in crypto.<\/p>\n<p><template data-name=\"subscription_form\" data-type=\"law_decoded\"><\/template><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
