Democrats on the panel blasted their GOP colleagues for \u201cwasting our time,\u201d The Hill\u2019s Rebecca Klar reports.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Twitter\u2019s former leaders, during a combative Wednesday hearing, maintained that the company\u2019s initial reaction to the newspaper report was not evidence of anti-conservative \u201ccensorship\u201d but rather a mistake explained long ago, which resulted from caution about false information tied to the 2020 presidential election (<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/technology\/2023\/02\/08\/live-updates-hunter-biden-laptop-censorship-hearing\/\">The Washington Post<\/a> and<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/politics-news\/former-twitter-executives-testify-house-oversight-hunter-biden-laptop-rcna69669\"> NBC News<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Twitter is now owned by <strong>Elon Musk<\/strong>, an ally of some Republicans, including Speaker <strong>Kevin McCarthy<\/strong> (R-Calif.).<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr2_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>House Oversight and Accountability Chairman <strong>James Comer<\/strong> (R-Ky.) alleged that Twitter\u2019s handling of news accounts showed a \u201ccoordinated campaign by social media companies, mainstream news and the intelligence community to suppress and delegitimize the existence of Hunter Biden\u2019s laptop\u201d and its contents. Former Twitter executives denied a conspiracy or suppression of GOP lawmakers\u2019 First Amendment rights.<\/p>\n<p>Today\u2019s House fireworks are expected to be similarly backward gazing under the guidance of House Judiciary Committee Chairman <strong>Jim Jordan<\/strong> (R-Ohio), who plans to use a new subcommittee to assert the \u201cweaponization\u201d of the FBI and the Justice Department against Republicans, an accusation also favored by Trump (<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2023\/02\/02\/politics\/republican-weaponization-probe-jill-sanborn\/index.html\">CNN<\/a> and<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/house-democrats-tap-trump-impeachment-officials-panel-biden-admin-weaponization-fbi\"> Fox News<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>\u25aa The Hill: Rep. Senate Republicans are allowing McCarthy to craft a debt ceiling strategy.\u00a0<\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\">\u201c<strong><em>I think he can do it,\u201d<\/em><\/strong> Sen. <strong>Shelley Moore Capito<\/strong> (R-W.Va.) said this week, referring to McCarthy (<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/newsletters\/huddle\/2023\/02\/08\/senate-guy-stops-by-00081783\">Politico<\/a>). <strong>\u201c<em>I\u2019ve seen him quoted saying he doesn\u2019t think we should default on the debt.
