In fact, you can even stand too long at a standing desk.<\/p>\n<p>So how long should you stand at a standing desk? 15-20 minutes per hour should do the trick.<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ewiworks.com\/about-us\/our-team\/dr-linda-l-miller\/\">Dr. Linda Miller<\/a>, a certified ergonomist, occupational therapist, and CEO of\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ewiworks.com\/\">EWI Works<\/a>, spoke with <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/wirecutter\/reviews\/how-to-set-up-standing-desk\/\">Wirecutter<\/a> explaining that a standing desk is designed to encourage movement\u2014not just standing. Standing, on its own, isn\u2019t exercise. Instead, standing desks incorporate movement into your day through the act of getting up and out of your chair, shuffling your feet as you stand, raising your legs, and even fidgeting. In fact, prolonged standing can actually be bad for you.<\/p>\n<div class=\"product-box  \">\n<div class=\"product-img product-img-noaward\">\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-pagespeed-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/m.media-amazon.com\/images\/I\/41NfpMx+QKL._SL160_.jpg\" height=\"147px\" width=\"147px\" alt=\"\" role=\"presentation\" src=\"\/pagespeed_static\/1.JiBnMqyl6S.gif\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/>\n<\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Standing for an hour or two at a time can increase bodily discomfort, elevate blood pressure, and encourage varicose veins. That\u2019s why Miller recommends 15-20 minutes of standing per hour, but if you\u2019re used to sitting all day, don\u2019t try this all at once.<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/wirecutter\/reviews\/how-to-set-up-standing-desk\/\">Miller recommended<\/a> starting with just five minutes per hour. Then, once you\u2019re used to that, work up to 10 minutes, and then move up to 15 minutes.
