It also means, for the most part, those living in the affected states who already filed their taxes don&#8217;t have to amend their returns.<\/p>\n<p>The <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-i13n=\"cpos:1;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irs.gov\/newsroom\/irs-issues-guidance-on-state-tax-payments-to-help-taxpayers\" data-ylk=\"slk:agency said;cpos:1;pos:1\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">agency said<\/a> it won&#8217;t &#8220;challenge the taxability of payments related to <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">general<\/a> welfare and disaster relief,&#8221; so taxpayers who received payments from the following states don&#8217;t need to report them on their 2022 federal tax return:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"caas-list caas-list-bullet\">\n<li>California<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Colorado<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Connecticut<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Delaware<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Florida<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Hawaii<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Idaho<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Illinois<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Indiana<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Maine<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>New Jersey<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>New Mexico<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>New York<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Oregon<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Pennsylvania<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Rhode Island<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Alaska also is included in this group, except for those who received the annual payment of Alaska&#8217;s Permanent Fund Dividend. That is considered taxable income on federal tax returns, the statement said. Any other payments that states provided as compensation for workers are also taxable on the federal level.<\/p>\n<p>According to the IRS, taxpayers in Georgia, Massachusetts, South Carolina, and Virginia who also received payments don&#8217;t have to report these on their 2022 federal tax returns if they meet the following criteria:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"caas-list caas-list-bullet\">\n<li>\n<p>The payment is a refund of state taxes paid, and<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Either the taxpayer claimed the standard deduction or itemized their deductions but did not get a tax benefit.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The IRS did not provide instructions for taxpayers who don&#8217;t meet those requirements, whose payments are still federally taxable, and who have already filed their federal tax returns.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"caas-figure\">\n<div class=\"caas-figure-with-pb\" style=\"max-height: 837px\">\n<div>\n<div class=\"caas-img-container caas-img-loader\" style=\"padding-bottom:67%;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"caas-img caas-lazy has-preview\" alt=\"IRS building in Washington DC.
