href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Social<\/a> Security and Medicare, President Biden has found a way to put Republicans right where he wants them.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In seizing upon the set of entitlements during his State of the Union address this week, Biden found \u201cthe sweet spot,\u201d as one strategist called it, when it comes to battling Republicans on key policy issues.\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr1_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>\u201cThe speech was written with these rhetorical traps that pushed Republicans into supporting a Democratic agenda because it pushed them to publicly acknowledge they\u2019re not going to touch Social Security,\u201d said Basil Smikle, a Democratic strategist who is the director of the public policy program at Hunter College. \u201cIt\u2019s a brilliant trap that was set and Republicans took the bait.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It also serves as a preview of what\u2019s to come, at least from the White House perspective. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Over the coming months as Biden launches his reelection bid, the president will continue to try to label Republicans as extreme by pointing to GOP proposals that he says would lead to changes to Social Security and Medicare.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe strategy is a classic one,\u201d\u00a0said Nayyera Haq,\u00a0the SiriusXM host who is a former senior aide in the Obama White House. \u201cShow the hypocrisy that goes on behind closed doors in government.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMost Americans don\u2019t pay attention to the back and forth of finance structures, so Republicans were using that to advance their views on cutting entitlement spending, forgetting that Social Security and Medicare are deeply popular programs with voters,\u201d Haq added. \u201cBiden put that all out in the open\u2026[Republicans] overplayed their hand and are paying for it now.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>During his address before the nation on Tuesday night, Biden accused \u201csome Republicans\u201d of wanting to make changes to Social Security, the program that nearly 65 million Americans depend upon in their retirement years.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr2_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>It was a veiled swipe at Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.), who in 2022 proposed \u201csunsetting\u201d federal programs every five years unless a renewal of the programs was passed by Congress.\u00a0The plan did not specify Social Security or Medicare, but it also did not exempt them.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnybody who doubts it, contact my office,\u201d Biden replied after he was met with jeers and heckling from Republicans for his State of the Union remarks. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) called him a \u201cliar.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ll give you a copy,\u201d Biden retorted. \u201cI\u2019ll give you a copy of the proposal.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr3_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>When Republicans continued to groan, Biden added: \u201cSo folks, as we all apparently agree, Social Security and Medicare is off the books now, right? They\u2019re not to be touched?\u201d Biden continued, going off <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">script<\/a> to respond. \u201cAll right. All right. We got unanimity.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Democrats stood to applaud \u2014 with some Republicans.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve never seen Joe Biden stay on message so well,\u201d said Susan Del Percio, the longtime Republican strategist. \u201cHe\u2019s hammering the right points home to the point that this has forced a rift within the Republican Party\u2026and it resonates.\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr4_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>\u201cHe flipped it to make it the conversation for the rest of the week,\u201d Del Percio added. \u201cIt\u2019s all we\u2019ve been talking about since Tuesday night.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Scott has repeatedly pushed back on Biden\u2019s criticisms. He specifically struck back at remarks Biden made during an appearance\u00a0at an event in Florida on Thursday.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSince you can\u2019t stop talking about me and lying to Floridians about Social Security and Medicare, I\u2019m sure you\u2019ll accept my invitation to debate the issue,\u201d Scott wrote on Twitter, before Biden took the stage at the University of Tampa. \u201cI\u2019ll be back in Florida tonight. You pick the time and place.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr5_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Scott maintains that he was not trying to eliminate Social Security or Medicare and in an ad this week accused Biden of proposing his own cuts to Medicare.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But as Del Percio said, \u201cIf you\u2019re explaining, you\u2019re losing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Scott\u2019s position\u00a0has also\u00a0been undercut by other Republicans \u2014 who have distanced themselves from his plan. Those Republicans include Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), who in March of 2022 indicated that Scott\u2019s plan would not be part of a GOP agenda if Republicans took back the Senate.\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr6_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Some observers say the best strategy for Republicans is to paint the picture that those calling for changes to Social Security and Medicare represent a minority in the party. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt this point, Republicans can limit the fallout by making it about the one or two members specifically and not about the caucus as a whole,\u201d Haq said. \u201cDemocrats will make this about a broader GOP agenda.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>White House aides certainly agree. Everything the White House has done this week shows they want to have a discussion on the popular federal entitlement programs\u00a0that are focused\u00a0on past GOP proposals to reform them. \u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr7_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>By taking the fight to the Sunshine State, which has the most senior citizens of any state, Biden is taking the fight to not only Scott but Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who is also expected to launch a presidential bid later this year and could be a potential rival.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>At the event in Florida on Thursday, Biden sought to double down on the issue with Republicans with White House aides distributing pamphlets with Republican plans to attendees.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>And speaking at the event, Biden continued to hammer Scott and the GOP plans.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know that a lot of Republicans \u2014 their dream is to cut Social Security and Medicare,\u201d Biden said during his remarks. \u201cIf that\u2019s your dream, I\u2019m your nightmare.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Referring to Scott\u2019s recent denials, he quipped: \u201cMaybe he\u2019s changed his mind.
