(AP) \u2014 Police in Louisiana&#8217;s capital city have arrested two people for a mass shooting that left 12 others wounded at a nightclub in January.<\/p>\n<p>Two 19-year-olds, Nikeal Franklin and Jy\u2019Shaun Jackson, were arrested Friday, the Baton Rouge Police Department said. Franklin was charged with 12 counts of attempted first-degree murder while Jackson was charged with 12 counts of principal to attempted first-degree murder.<\/p>\n<p>On Jan. 22, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-i13n=\"cpos:1;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/crime-baton-rouge-louisiana-shootings-f498bb84183d6aa92cba708b56ce9f97\" data-ylk=\"slk:shots rang out;cpos:1;pos:1\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">shots rang out<\/a> around 1:30 a.m. in the Dior Bar &amp; Lounge in Baton Rouge. A dozen people were injured, and most sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Three victims were initially listed in critical condition, but their conditions later improved.<\/p>\n<p>Police said they believe the shooting was not a random act of violence and that it was \u201ctargeted.\u201d Sgt. L\u2019Jean McKneely Jr., a police spokesman, told The Associated Press in the days following the shooting that investigators believed the shooting was targeted at one partygoer and that bystanders were hurt in the process.<\/p>\n<p>Before the shooting, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-i13n=\"cpos:2;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/baton-rouge-louisiana-education-a11ed3871fe7665dd3d6dbe40fc072ca\" data-ylk=\"slk:the nightclub had advertised;cpos:2;pos:1\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">the nightclub had advertised<\/a> a Southern University and Louisiana State University-<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">theme<\/a>d party as the two schools kicked off new semesters. Spokespeople for both LSU and Southern University told <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-i13n=\"cpos:3;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theadvocate.com\/baton_rouge\/news\/crime_police\/baton-rouge-club-loses-liquor-license-after-mass-shooting\/article_3d15a44e-9c20-11ed-89d8-9f6a131a1e32.html?taid=63d05515f6f20a0001865914&amp;utm_campaign=trueanthem&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_source=twitter\" data-ylk=\"slk:The Advocate;cpos:3;pos:1\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">The Advocate<\/a> that the event at the club that evening in Baton Rouge was not affiliated with either school.<\/p>\n<p>In a <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">social media<\/a> post Friday, police said the investigation was ongoing and did not release any details beyond an announcement of the arrests.<\/p>\n<p>Although the number of homicides in Baton Rouge decreased last year from 2021, Louisiana\u2019s capital city has been plagued by gun violence.
