It can either lay flat for travel or it can be arched up for use. I was excited to try out this product as it seemed both intriguing and useful.<\/p>\n<p>When I went to coffee shops to work in the past, I often opted to leave whatever mouse I owned at the time since it didn\u2019t fit in my laptop sleeve. I could easily slip it into my backpack or, more impressively, my laptop sleeve (as seen above) without taking up too much space or adding a huge bump. My ring finger and pinky often drag alongside the mouse or wrap under it a bit. This often turns my hand slightly, leaving it angled.<\/p>\n<p>This is perfectly fine, that is, until you have to scroll. Scrolling is neither smooth nor instinctual. The touch area for the scroll is narrow, which is particularly problematic since you often find your hand angled.<\/p>\n<p>You either get frustrated because you are only hitting the scroll a fraction of the time, or you have to readjust your hand every time you need to scroll. It feels unnatural no matter how you end up scrolling.<\/p>\n<p>Another issue is that the beveled edges on the bottom of the mouse occasionally catch the skin of my palm and pinch it between the mouse and the surface it\u2019s placed on. While it doesn\u2019t particularly hurt, it is annoying.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve used a <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Microsoft-Surface-Arc-Mouse-Blue\/dp\/B072FG8LBV?tag=lsmedia-13857-20&amp;asc_refurl=https:\/\/www.reviewgeek.com\/140884\/dell-ms700-bluetooth-travel-mouse-review\/\">Microsoft Surface Arc Mouse\u00a0before (which features a very similar design) and haven\u2019t come across the same discomforts I\u2019ve encountered here.<\/p>\n<div class=\"product-box  \">\n<div class=\"product-img product-img-noaward\">\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-pagespeed-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/m.media-amazon.com\/images\/I\/31kDW9wlQHL._SL160_.jpg\" height=\"147px\" width=\"147px\" alt=\"\" role=\"presentation\" src=\"\/pagespeed_static\/1.JiBnMqyl6S.gif\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/>\n<\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<h2 class=\"mceTemp\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"This_Mouse_Is_Louder_Than_It_Should_Be\"><\/span>This Mouse Is Louder Than It Should Be<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>There are two plastic pads on the bottom of the accessory that sit between whatever surface the mouse is placed on and the mouse itself. When you\u2019re sitting at a desk with a <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/773765\/best-mouse-pad\/\">mouse pad<\/a>, there isn\u2019t any sound worth noting. Unfortunately, most places where you would be using a portable mouse, such as a caf\u00e9, airport, or library, won\u2019t have a mouse pad. Instead, you will have a hard surface.<\/p>\n<p>The plastic pads scrapping across a table sound very scratchy. It isn\u2019t subtle, either. I always prefer using a <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reviewgeek.com\/3762\/the-best-bluetooth-mouse-for-every-user\/\">Bluetooth mouse when working because not being tied to a USB dongle that\u2019s plugged into a dock is extremely helpful when I need to bring my laptop into the conference room.<\/p>\n<p>The Dell MS700 can be paired with up to three devices at a time, with the ability to switch between connections by pressing a single button on the bottom of the mouse\u2014which is quite convenient. I have it paired to my work laptop and my personal laptop so it can be used with whatever device I\u2019m traveling with.<\/p>\n<p>It works with both PCs and Macs, but I found it to be significantly easier to connect to a Windows machine. When trying to pair to several Macs, the computers would recognize the mouse for a split second before it disappeared. It took many rounds of racing to click on the mouse in the Bluetooth settings before it vanished. Eventually, the race was won, and the connection was made, but it certainly was annoying.<\/p>\n<p>As soon as the mouse is paired, it works fine with Macs.\u00a0It is worth noting that mouse settings cannot be customized on Macs since the Dell Peripheral Manager app (<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"#moka_anchor_app\">more on this below<\/a>) is not compatible with macOS.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Dell_Peripheral_Managers_Limited_Functionality\"><\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" name=\"autotoc_anchor_3\"><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" name=\"moka_anchor_app\">Dell Peripheral Manager\u2019s Limited Functionality<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-141025\" data-pagespeed-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.reviewgeek.com\/p\/uploads\/2022\/12\/a2e4f8a2-e1672412153533.png\" alt=\"Dell Peripheral Manager App with DPI settings displayed\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1080\" src=\"\/pagespeed_static\/1.JiBnMqyl6S.gif\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Through the Dell Peripheral Manager app (available only on <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dell.com\/en-us\/lp\/dpem\">Windows<\/a>), you can control which side of the\u00a0Dell MS700 is the primary click button. This is great because it means the mouse can be used\u00a0ambidextrously.<\/p>\n<p>You can also select your <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/182702\/mouse-dpi-and-polling-rates-explained-do-they-matter-for-gaming\/\">DPI<\/a>\u00a0between 1000, 1600, 2400, and 4000. I found this range to be fine for a portable mouse (you won\u2019t be gaming with this accessory). You can\u2019t customize the setting to your exact preference, but it should certainly get you close enough.<\/p>\n<p>One thing you can customize is the scroll speed, but it is very misleading. There is a slider bar that goes from \u201cslow\u201d to \u201cfast.\u201d The automatic setting is right in the middle of that range.<\/p>\n<p>When it was at that middle point, I wanted the scroll speed to be more responsive, so I figured I would bump it up slightly. I quickly had the frustrating realization that the UI was just tricking me. It seems like you have a whole wide range of options to allow you to adjust the settings to your preferences, but, instead, there is just \u201cslow\u201d and \u201cfast\u201d with a midpoint in between. Slow is too slow, fast is too fast, but the middle setting doesn\u2019t feel right either.<\/p>\n<p>This mouse is technically customizable, but there aren\u2019t many options for you.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Should_You_Buy_the_Dell_MS700_Bluetooth_Travel_Mouse\"><\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" name=\"autotoc_anchor_4\">Should You Buy the\u00a0Dell MS700 Bluetooth Travel Mouse?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>With all things considered, I don\u2019t see the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dell.com\/en-us\/shop\/dell-bluetooth-travel-mouse-ms700-black\/apd\/570-abpw\/pc-accessories\">Dell MS700 mouse<\/a> benefitting many people. It does one cool thing, but there are just too many issues for it to be worth the price tag.<\/p>\n<p>There are plenty of <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/732167\/the-best-mice-for-gaming-productivity-and-more\/\">travel mice<\/a> on the market that aren\u2019t quite as flat, but they will give you a better performance. Two great examples of compact travel mice are the Logitech MX Anywhere 2\u00a0and the CHERRY MW 9100 Mouse.
