But Microsoft has always prevented\u00a0<em>Minecraft: Bedrock Edition<\/em> from running on Chrome OS\u2014this may change in 2023, as Microsoft is now offering a <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/redirect.viglink.com\/?key=14d03d76e0a6285761e58439513dfd19&amp;u=https%3A%2F%2Fplay.google.com%2Fstore%2Fapps%2Fdetails%3Fid%3Dcom.mojang.minecrafttrialpe&amp;cuid=xid:{xid}&amp;___trxnet=vg\">free \u201ctrial\u201d version<\/a> of\u00a0<em>Minecraft<\/em> for Chromebooks.<\/p>\n<p>This trial is available in select regions (excluding the U.S. and UK) and allows you to play\u00a0<i>Minecraft: Bedrock Edition<\/i> on your Chromebook. That said, users only have 90 minutes to build a \u201ctrial\u201d world. After 90 minutes, your world is deleted, and you must start from scratch. Games are limited to Survival mode and do not support achievements, multiplayer, servers, or other online features.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Minecraft Trial is a free trial version of Minecraft that provides a time-limited, survival-only experience for players. The Minecraft Trial for Chromebook is a version of the trial app that aims to capture platform-specific data for bug fixes and technical troubleshooting.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>It\u2019s an awkward idea, obviously. But Microsoft says that this trial will help it locate and patch bugs. Presumably, the company wants to avoid any problems that may impact players\u2019 worlds in an official release. (By the way, this is the Android version of\u00a0<em>Minecraft<\/em>.)<\/p>\n<p>Microsoft previously prevented Chromebooks from installing the\u00a0<em>Minecraft Bedrock<\/em> app. We\u2019re not sure why the company neglected this platform, as Chromebooks are incredibly common in schools and are often marketed as affordable starter laptops for children. (To be fair,\u00a0<i>Minecraft: Education<\/i>\u00a0launched for Chrome OS in 2020.)<\/p>\n<p>Chromebook owners can test the\u00a0<em>Minecraft<\/em> app today for free. Simply open the Play Store, find\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/redirect.viglink.com\/?key=14d03d76e0a6285761e58439513dfd19&amp;u=https%3A%2F%2Fplay.google.com%2Fstore%2Fapps%2Fdetails%3Fid%3Dcom.mojang.minecrafttrialpe&amp;cuid=xid:{xid}&amp;___trxnet=vg\"><em>Minecraft Trial<\/em><\/a>, and install it on your machine.
