CFTC and SEC cases against SBF deferred until after criminal trial &#8220;<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h1>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/images.cointelegraph.com\/images\/840_aHR0cHM6Ly9zMy5jb2ludGVsZWdyYXBoLmNvbS91cGxvYWRzLzIwMjMtMDIvN2UxMjFkOTAtMDUyNi00NjljLTgyYTYtYzVkMTI1NGVkMWU1LmpwZw==.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<div class=\"post-content\" data-v-4bbf85c5>A New York judge has granted a request from prosecutors to defer civil proceedings against Sam Bankman-Fried from the Commodities Futures Trading Commission and the Securities Exchange Commission until after the FTX founder\u2019s criminal trial in October.<\/p>\n<p>U.S. District Judge of Manhattan Kevin Castel on Feb. 13 <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.courtlistener.com\/docket\/66631227\/38\/commodity-futures-trading-commission-v-bankman-fried\/\">granted<\/a> the motions to stay the civil proceedings \u201cwithout prejudice,\u201d meaning the cases will now be halted until after the Department of Justice&#8217;s criminal trial concludes. <\/p>\n<p>The motion was first submitted on Feb. 7 by Damian Williams, the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, requesting to defer both civil cases against the FTX founder and former CEO. <\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">both civil cases (one from the SEC and one from the CFTC) have been stayed until the conclusion of the criminal trial against Sam Bankman-Fried <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/3i28naGtnl\">https:\/\/t.co\/3i28naGtnl<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Molly White (@molly0xFFF) <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/molly0xFFF\/status\/1625299006019538945?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 14, 2023<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>Citing his reasons for wanting the delay, Williams emphasized that all three cases will most likely be hinged on providing the same evidence against Bankman-Fried, and that the DOJ\u2019s trial in October will have a \u201csignificant impact\u201d on these civil cases. <\/p>\n<p>He also suggested that failing to delay the cases may give SBF unfair advantages in the DOJ\u2019s trial, as the FTX founder had the tools to \u201cimproperly obtain impeachment material regarding the government\u2019s witnesses, circumvent the criminal discovery rules, and improperly tailor his defense in the criminal case.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bankman-Fried\u2019s legal team did not oppose William\u2019s motion to defer the proceedings. <\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Related: <\/em><\/strong><strong><em>FTX liquidators report exchange held $2.4M \u2018fleet of vehicles\u2019 in the Bahamas<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In a related court development concerning SBF\u2019s alleged witness tampering antics, Judge Lewis Kaplan of the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York on Feb. 9 extended the FTX founder\u2019s ban on using all encrypted messaging <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp;
