It marked the first time in nearly seven years she performed, and it also came after she turned down the halftime show in 2018 to stand in solidarity with<strong> Colin Kaepernick<\/strong>. As you may recall, the athlete took a knee during The<em> Star-Spangled Banner<\/em> to protest against racial injustice and police brutality. So Rihanna refused to do the halftime show to support Colin, explaining to <em>Vogue<\/em> in 2019:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cI just couldn\u2019t be a sellout. There\u2019s things within that organization that I do not agree with at all, and I was not about to go and be of service to them in any way.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div class=\"clear\"><\/div>\n<p>So why the change of heart now? In a new interview with <em>Vogue UK<\/em> published on Wednesday, Rihanna explained that she knew the impact of having \u201crepresentation\u201d on as big of a stage as the Super Bowl was important:<\/p>\n<div style=\"min-height:120px;width:100%;float:none;\">\n<div id=\"section-63ed8838a45d6-paragraph-slot\" class=\"lazyload-unit\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s still a lot of mending to be done in my eyes, but it\u2019s powerful to break those doors, and have representation at such a high, high level and a consistent level.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Related: Olivia Wilde Claps Back At Backlash After Calling A$AP Hot During Super Bowl Show! <\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"clear\"><\/div>\n<p>She also noted that her performance was the second that was \u201crepresenting the Urban community globally\u201d after <strong>Dr. Dre<\/strong>, <strong>Snoop Dogg<\/strong>, <strong>Mary J. Blige<\/strong>, <strong>Kendrick Lamar<\/strong>, and <strong>Eminem<\/strong> showed out in 2022:<\/p>\n<div style=\"min-height:120px;width:100%;float:none;\">\n<div id=\"section-63ed8838a45dc-paragraph-slot\" class=\"lazyload-unit\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cIt is powerful. It sends a really strong message.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>But there was another big factor in her decision to accept the offer. She was now \u201craising a young Black man,\u201d saying:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<div class=\"clear\"><\/div>\n<p>\u201cOf course, raising a young Black man is one of the scariest responsibilities in life. You\u2019re like, \u2018What am I leaving my kids to? This is the planet they\u2019re gonna be living on?\u2019 All of those things really start to hit differently.\u201d<\/p>\n<div style=\"min-height:120px;width:100%;float:none;\">\n<div id=\"section-63ed8838a45e1-paragraph-slot\" class=\"lazyload-unit\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Becoming a momma, Rihanna also realized she was able to \u201cdo anything\u201d even after being a few months postpartum:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cIt\u2019s this knowing that you can do anything, even things that seem the craziest, like, \u2018I\u2019m going to say yes to the Super Bowl in the middle of postpartum?\u2019 What the heck am I thinking? But you\u2019re geeked on a challenge like that because you know what your body just did. You feel this sense of \u2018Nothing is impossible.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div class=\"clear\"><\/div>\n<p>However, there was one little detail she did not know at the time. The<strong> Fenty Beauty<\/strong> founder had no idea she had a baby on board when she agreed to headline the Super Bowl! She told the publication:<\/p>\n<div style=\"min-height:120px;width:100%;float:none;\">\n<div id=\"section-63ed8838a45e5-paragraph-slot\" class=\"lazyload-unit\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cIt was almost like an out-of-body experience. I have not been on stage in seven years. Seven years! From zero to Super Bowl? That\u2019s mental.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Nevertheless, nothing was going to stop Rihanna from putting on a show! Before the Super Bowl, she explained that she wanted \u201cto have fun\u201d on stage, especially since she hasn\u2019t performed like this in years:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<div class=\"clear\"><\/div>\n<p>\u201cI haven\u2019t done this in a minute and I\u2019m doing this for the people that love my music, the people that have supported me and gotten me to this place in my career. And who miss me as a musician in particular. It\u2019s me really just getting back onstage \u2013 a crazy stage to be back on \u2013 but I\u2019m really doing this for my fans.\u201d<\/p>\n<div style=\"min-height:120px;width:100%;float:none;\">\n<div id=\"section-63ed8838a45ea-paragraph-slot\" class=\"lazyload-unit\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>It\u2019s safe to say, many of her fans were thrilled to see RiRi back on stage again!<\/p>\n<p>While Rihanna has ventured back into performing again, what does this mean about her long-awaited album? She shared that she wants to release one \u201cthis year!\u201d Rihanna revealed:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<div class=\"clear\"><\/div>\n<p>\u201cLike, honestly, it\u2019d be ridiculous if it\u2019s not this year. But I just want to have fun. I just want to make music and make videos. And I need the right background music with the visuals. I can\u2019t just go shoot a video to me talking.\u201d<\/p>\n<div style=\"min-height:120px;width:100%;float:none;\">\n<div id=\"section-63ed8838a45f0-paragraph-slot\" class=\"lazyload-unit\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The <em>Umbrella<\/em> artist explained she struggled to release new music after <em>Anti<\/em> because \u201cit really is my most brilliant album\u201d and \u201cthere\u2019s this pressure that I put on myself,\u201d noting \u201cthat if it\u2019s not better than that then it is not even worth it.\u201d However, Rihanna realized that \u201cif I keep waiting until this feels right and perfect and better, maybe it\u2019s going to keep taking forever and maybe it\u2019ll never come out and no, I\u2019m not down to that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019re keeping our fingers crossed for another album soon!<\/p>\n<div class=\"clear\"><\/div>\n<p>Elsewhere in the interview, she opened up about how motherhood has been for her so far, expressing:<\/p>\n<div style=\"min-height:120px;width:100%;float:none;\">\n<div id=\"section-63ed8838a45f5-paragraph-slot\" class=\"lazyload-unit\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cOh, my God, it\u2019s legendary. It\u2019s everything. You really don\u2019t remember life before, that\u2019s the craziest thing ever. You literally try to remember it \u2013 and there are photos of my life before \u2013 but the feeling, the desires, the things that you enjoy, everything, you just don\u2019t identify with it because you don\u2019t even allow yourself mentally to get that far, because\u2026 Because it doesn\u2019t matter.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>However, it (understandably) hasn\u2019t been smooth sailing all the time. Like many celebrity parents, the <strong>Savage X Fenty<\/strong> creator has dealt with the paparazzi not respecting her wishes and taking pictures of her baby boy when she and A$AP hadn\u2019t even shown him to the world yet. Rihanna recalled the moment she was shooting the cover for <em>Vogue UK<\/em> with her son and noticed the paps sn<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ing photos of them:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<div class=\"clear\"><\/div>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s the thing you never want to happen. We get to decide as parents when and how we do that. End of story. Throw me to the wolves. Do what you want with me. But he doesn\u2019t have a say in any of this. We\u2019ve been protecting him thus far and you don\u2019t have any consent to be posting photos or selling photos of my child, a minor. [Rocky and me] drove up to the trailer area and we sat in the car chatting and working out how we move forward. As parents it just feels so icky, like a violation.
