Nikki Haley (R) on Thursday criticized the so-called Don\u2019t Say Gay measure signed into law by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) last year, saying it doesn\u2019t go \u201cfar enough.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBasically, what it said was you shouldn\u2019t be able to talk about gender before third grade,\u201d Haley said at a town hall in Exeter, N.H.,\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/haley-says-desantis-parental-rights-education-law-florida-doesnt-go-far-enough\">according to Fox News<\/a>. \u201cI\u2019m sorry, I don\u2019t think that goes far enough.\u201d<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr1_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>\u201cWhen I was in school you didn\u2019t have sex ed until seventh grade. And even then, your parents had to sign whether you could take the class,\u201d she added. \u201cThat\u2019s a decision for parents to make,\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Florida\u2019s Parental Rights in Education law, dubbed \u201cDon\u2019t Say Gay\u201d by its opponents, bars classroom instruction on sexual orientation and gender identity in kindergarten through third grade. The law has faced intense national backlash amid accusations that it stifles free speech and targets the LGBTQ community.<\/p>\n<p>Haley announced her 2024 presidential campaign on Wednesday, becoming the first Republican to officially challenge former President Trump for the party\u2019s nomination. DeSantis is widely expected to enter the race as well.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think Ron\u2019s been a good governor. I just think that third grade\u2019s too young,\u201d Haley said in an interview with Fox <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">News<\/a> Digital after the New Hampshire event. \u201cWe should not be talking to kids in elementary school about gender, period.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd if you are going to talk to kids about it, you need to get the parents\u2019 permission to do that,\u201d she continued. \u201cThat is something between a parent and a child.
