\n 2020 watch: Biden\u2019s Bounceless DNC<\/strong><\/p>\n

Democrats hoped their convention would halt the slippage in Joe Biden\u2019s lead in the polls over President Trump, notes Dominic Green at Spectator USA. Yet not only did they fail to see \u201ca post-conference bounce,\u201d support for Trump rose, \u201cincluding in swing states.\u201d While a Reuters\/Ipso poll found no shifts, CNBC\/Change Research cited a two-point bump in Trump\u2019s app<\/a>roval in six swing states. Zogby Analytics put that number at 52 percent, his best; Rasmussen, at 51 percent. Maybe voters didn\u2019t like what they saw at the DNC: \u201ca two-ring circus of identity politics\u201d with \u201ca ringmaster so raddled by age\u201d he is \u201cmore likely to crack a hip than crack the whip.\u201d By September, predicts Green, polls will show Biden\u2019s lead \u201cshrinking into the margin of error, and Trump edging ahead in a couple of swing states.\u201d<\/p>\n

Education desk: \u2018Choice\u2019 Gives GOP an Edge<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Chicago Tribune\u2019s John Kass believes the GOP convention was \u201cTrump\u2019s last chance to reframe himself, to offer something to parents sitting on the fence who seek a reason to walk away from the Democrats.\u201d And it did that, by touting school choice: \u201cI don\u2019t care if it\u2019s a public, private, charter, virtual or a home school,\u201d declared Sen. Tim Scott, a black Republican, in his speech. \u201cWhen a parent has a choice, a kid has a better chance.\u201d At that, Kass thought he \u201cheard heads exploding among liberal pundits and the bosses of the teachers\u2019 unions, the ground troops\u201d of the Democratic Party. In November, they could learn that parents \u201ccare more about their children\u2019s education than political ideology.\u201d<\/p>\n

From the Left: Draw Distinctions on Cop Killings<\/strong><\/p>\n

If he were younger and in Kenosha, he would be out protesting now, John Judis writes at Talking Points Memo. But he has \u201cextreme misgivings about the violent protests that have occurred over the last months and most recently in response to the Kenosha shooting.\u201d For starters, \u201cviolent, rather than peaceful, protests and rioting can lead to political consequences that undermine whatever the protesters had hoped to achieve.\u201d Morality matters, too: The idea that property damage is \u201cfree speech\u201d makes no sense \u201cif you own or work at a small business that had nothing to do with \u00adGeorge Floyd\u2019s death.\u201d And \u201cmost Americans, \u00adincluding African-Americans, do not support \u00addefunding the police, and rightly so,\u201d as they think it \u201cwould lead to an increase in crime.\u201d They \u201cdon\u2019t see the police as being intrinsically bad actors.\u201d So \u201cleading Democrats .\u2009.\u2009. need to draw a very clear line in the sand\u201d between peaceful vs. violent protest, and \u00adreforming versus abolishing police.<\/p>\n

Civil libertarian: Tish James Went Too Far<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cThe American Civil Liberties Union rarely finds itself on the same side as the National Rifle Association in policy debates,\u201d ACLU legal director David Cole points out at The Wall Street Journal. But the group is \u201cdisturbed by New York Attorney General<\/a> Letitia James\u2019 recent effort to dissolve the NRA\u201d \u2014 and penalize \u201cthe entire organization for the wrongs\u201d of its leaders.\u201d All Americans should be concerned about such \u201coverreach\u201d: If James can do this against the NRA, why can\u2019t a red-state AG \u201ctake similar action against the ACLU, the AFL-CIO, Common Cause or Everytown for Gun Safety?\u201d The First Amendment protects the right \u201cto band together with others to \u00adadvance one\u2019s views.\u201d It\u2019s a \u201cright for all, not just for those whom government officials favor.\u201d<\/p>\n

Conservative: RNC Scores Where DNC Dodged<\/strong><\/p>\n

Republicans \u201ccapitalized\u201d on \u201cthe advantage of going second,\u201d argues The Washington Examiner\u2019s Michael Barone, answering the Democratic convention\u2019s full-on charge of racism by highlighting the likes of ex-Gov. Nikki Haley and Sen. Tim Scott, among many other minority figures. And where Dems put Hollywood stars center-state, the GOP brought out ordinary people. Democrats avoided talking abortion, where the party has moved far-left, as well as \u201cthe continued violence and the sharp increases in murders in major cities across the country\u201d \u2014 an issue that the polls show, \u201cafter nearly three months of violence and destruction and rising murder rates,\u201d is of growing concern to the public. \u2014 Compiled by The Post Editorial Board\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
