Warren\u2019s comments to \u2018set the record straight\u2019  &#8220;<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h1>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/images.cointelegraph.com\/images\/840_aHR0cHM6Ly9zMy5jb2ludGVsZWdyYXBoLmNvbS91cGxvYWRzLzIwMjMtMDIvYTg1YmEyYWEtODRmMy00NTU5LTg2ODEtNDVlM2VkYTEyMWQ3LmpwZw==.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<div class=\"post-content\" data-v-48054ca8>Non-custodial crypto platform ShapeShift refuted United States Senator Elizabeth Warren\u2019s claims of &#8220;illicit financing,\u201d suggesting that she used the platform as a scapegoat to \u201cpush\u201d her latest crypto bill, according to a recent statement.<\/p>\n<p>ShapeShift stated in a tweet on Feb. 19 that Warren made \u201cmistakes\u201d in her \u201canalysis\u201d of the platform, at a recent senate banking committee hearing entitled \u201cCrypto Crash: Why Financial System Safeguards are Needed for Digital Assets,\u201d on Feb. 14.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">On Valentine&#8217;s Day, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SenWarren?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@SenWarren<\/a> attempted to use ShapeShift as an example to push her latest crypto bill.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, there were mistakes in the Senator&#8217;s analysis, and we&#8217;d like to take the opportunity to set the record straight <\/p>\n<p>\u2014 ShapeShift  (@ShapeShift) <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ShapeShift\/status\/1627088415853535233?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 18, 2023<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>In a follow-up <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ShapeShift\/status\/1627088417816461313?s=20\">tweet<\/a>, ShapeShift denied Warren\u2019s comments regarding its involvement with \u201cillicit financing,\u201d stating it \u201cnever handles user funds,\u201d and has no ability to \u201cfacilitate this.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This is in relation to Warren\u2019s comments suggesting that Shapeshift had ulterior motives for restructuring itself as a DeFi platform in July 2021.<\/p>\n<p>Warren suggested that the restructure was to encourage people to \u201claunder\u201d money on the platform.<\/p>\n<p>Shapeshift also clarified that it is \u201cnot an exchange,\u201d elaborating that it is an open-source crypto dashboard that \u201cconnects users\u201d to different protocols and platforms.<\/p>\n<p>It added that it cares about the \u201csame things\u201d as Warren, citing &#8220;user safety&#8221; and &#8220;access to innovation&#8221; as a mutual focus.<\/p>\n<p>ShapeShift encouraged Warren and others to \u201cconstructively engage\u201d in the topic of financial freedom and innovation with its community, sharing a link to its discussion forum.<\/p>\n<p>This comes only a day after Erik Vorhees, CEO of ShapeShift, took to his personal <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Twitter<\/a> on Feb. 18,\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ErikVoorhees\/status\/1626786101452226560\">stating<\/a>\u00a0that he is looking forward to Warren \u201csubmitting a proposal\u201d to the Shapeshift DAO governance process, in response to her criticism of the platform.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Related: <\/em><\/strong><strong><em>US Sen.
