It would be the image of the president walking into the room for that first interview that would have the biggest impact on Penn.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s hard to explain, but there was a resolve in reaction to something that no one has ever faced before,\u201d Penn said.<\/p>\n<p>At a press conference also Saturday, Penn said they returned to the hotel after the interview and <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-i13n=\"cpos:3;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/russia-ukraine-entertainment-europe-donetsk-sean-penn-f29bd90111af7f631e1590a1fa88896e\" data-ylk=\"slk:the shelling started that very night.;cpos:3;pos:1\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">the shelling started that very night.<\/a> When they first met Zelenskyy, he had \u201ca proper suit and a proper office.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe next time we saw him, he was in camos and his country was at war,\u201d Penn said.<\/p>\n<p>The <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-i13n=\"cpos:4;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/hub\/russia-ukraine\" data-ylk=\"slk:outbreak of war;cpos:4;pos:1\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">outbreak of war<\/a> sent the documentary on an unexpected track. The film contains further interviews with the president conducted over the past year.<\/p>\n<p>After completing the project, the pair have continued to speak off camera. Zelenskyy presented the Hollywood star \u2014 who has been involved in numerous international humanitarian and anti-war efforts over the years \u2014 <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-i13n=\"cpos:5;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/russia-ukraine-zelenskyy-kyiv-entertainment-europe-1ce60485c6767cd0d12eb2169cde7497\" data-ylk=\"slk:with the Ukrainian Order of Merit;cpos:5;pos:1\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">with the Ukrainian Order of Merit<\/a> last year. Penn was also given a plaque on a Kyiv walkway honoring world leaders who have shown solidarity with Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>Penn told the AP that people would be most surprised by Zelenskyy&#8217;s \u201ccommand of the mechanisms of government.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNot only his, but all of those upon whom he is reliant, his sense of m<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ing the diplomatic territory,&#8221; he said. &#8220;He\u2019s on fire. He has that extreme gift for politics.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Penn recalled the \u201ccivility\u201d he saw when leaving Ukraine via the Polish border a few days after the invasion began.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo one was honking. No one was trying to drive around the other and take and there was a kind of quiet acceptance,&#8221; Penn said during the interview. &#8220;You know, and these were families being torn apart.
