“#Paralyzed dog stranded in quarantine at JFK Airport could be euthanized<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

\n A paralyzed rescue dog has been stranded in quarantine at JFK Airport for three days \u2014 and could soon be euthanized \u2014 because Centers for Disease Control and Prevention officials wrongly assumed she\u2019s sick, animal advocates told The Post Thursday.<\/p>\n

The adorable border collie-mix, Berry, was flown on Monday from Jordan to the Big App<\/a>le, where airport CDC workers refused to release her, according to Meredith Festa of the New York-based non-profit Paws Unite.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe\u2019s scared and she can\u2019t walk and she\u2019s sitting in her own pee thinking, \u2018Where are all the people that cared for me?\u2019\u201d Festa said. \u201cIt doesn\u2019t sit right in my stomach.\u201d<\/p>\n

CDC staffers saw the dog\u2019s disability along with a typo in her rabies paperwork and deemed her a public health risk, saying she must be quarantined for at least 28 days, according to Festa and other animal advocates.<\/p>\n

The person tasked with transporting Berry abandoned her, possibly due to too much red tape \u2014 leaving the animal in the possession of Royal Jordanian Airlines, Festa said.<\/p>\n

Now, the airline must decide by Friday whether to euthanize the pup or pay to board her at a CDC-approved quarantine facility, said Festa, who said Paws Unite has offered to assume financial responsibility for Berry.<\/p>\n

In the meantime, the disabled dog \u2014\u00a0 who was likely beaten or hit by a car in her homeland \u2014 has been stuck without proper care at JFK\u2019s animal care facility, she said.<\/p>\n

The pooch needs special attention, including taking frequent medication, using a hind-legs wheelchair and having her diaper changed.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe airline decides whether she lives or dies,\u201d Festa said. \u201cI don\u2019t think she should have been flown thousands of miles to die.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Kris Kelly Foundation, a non-profit animal rescue group, drummed up attention for Berry on Instagram this week, posting footage of the pooch along with a message from a popular Jordanian animal rights advocate and former Miss Arab.<\/p>\n

Reached by phone, Kelly told the Post, \u201cThis is ridiculous \u2026 If they won\u2019t give her back, they they should release her to an outside rescue.\u201d<\/p>\n

The CDC and Royal Jordanian Airlines didn\u2019t return a request for comment Thursday night.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
