You can use an extension called &#8220;BlockSite,&#8221; utilize parental controls, edit the Hosts file, and even block sites with your router.<\/p>\n<p>Do you find yourself accessing <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Facebook<\/a>, Twitter, or other distracting websites when you really should be doing something else instead? Block that website in Google Chrome. Instead, we recommend an extension called\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/redirect.viglink.com\/?key=e7eab128eb8d1c53e14db14f4c632447&amp;u=https%3A%2F%2Fchrome.google.com%2Fwebstore%2Fdetail%2Fblock-site-website-blocke%2Feiimnmioipafcokbfikbljfdeojpcgbh%3Fhl%3Den&amp;cuid=xid:{xid}&amp;___trxnet=vg\">BlockSite<\/a>. Make sure you\u2019re on the \u201cBlock Sites\u201d tab and enter a URL in the text bar. For example, if you just want to block Facebook, you could restrict BlockSite to only run on facebook.com.<\/p>\n<p>To block websites for other users on your computer, you may also want to hop into the \u201cPassword Protection\u201d tab to prevent people from easily unblocking websites.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_to_Block_a_Website_on_Chrome_with_Parental_Controls\"><\/span>How to Block a Website on Chrome with Parental Controls<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The BlockSite extension works fine, but\u2014as an extension\u2014it has some shortcomings. If you\u2019re trying to block extensions for a child or someone else on your PC, an extension is easy to remove. For a more surefire method, you can take advantage of Parental Controls.<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/225323\/how-to-add-and-monitor-a-childs-account-in-windows-10\/\">Windows 10\u2019s Family features allow you to add websites to \u201cAllows Allow\u201d and \u201cAlways Block.\u201d Windows 11\u2019s Family features can do the same thing, but Windows 11 requires all users in the family have Microsoft accounts\u2014it works through the \u201c<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/click.linksynergy.com\/deeplink?id=2QzUaswX1as&amp;mid=24542&amp;u1=htg\/448171|xid:{xid}&amp;murl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.microsoft.com%2Fstore%2FproductId%2F9PDJDJS743XF&amp;___trxnet=ls\">Family Safety<\/a>\u201d app.<\/p>\n<p>For Apple users, the Screen Time feature on Mac, iPhone, and iPad can be used to block websites. Screen Time lets you block websites in the \u201cApp Limits\u201d section, and it applies to all browsers on the system, including Chrome.\u00a0On a Chromebook and Android, you can\u00a0use Family Link\u00a0to control which websites a child\u2019s account can visit (more on that in the section below).<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_to_Block_a_Website_in_Chrome_with_Google_Family_Link\"><\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" name=\"autotoc_anchor_2\">How to Block a Website in Chrome with Google Family Link<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Google\u2019s Parental Control software is called \u201cFamily Link.\u201d Among the many features is the ability to block websites on Chrome. This includes any instance of the Chrome browser where your child\u2019s Google account is signed in. Windows, Android, iPhone, anywhere.<\/p>\n<p>To get started, head over to\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/families.google\/familylink\/\">families.google\/familylink<\/a>\u00a0and sign in with your Google account. There are a lot of controls with Google Family Link, so make sure to explore a bit.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_to_Block_Websites_on_Chrome_With_the_Hosts_File\"><\/span>How to Block Websites on Chrome With the Hosts File<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>One of the most effective ways to block websites in Google Chrome is with the Hosts file. This is a plain-text file that translates domain names into IP addresses. We can <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/27350\/beginner-geek-how-to-edit-your-hosts-file\/\">edit the Hosts file to block websites, and it\u2019s pretty easy to do.<\/p>\n<p>We have a full guide for editing the Hosts file on Windows, Mac, and Linux. For blocking a website, you\u2019ll need to simply add a line of text to the bottom of the file. For example, to block Facebook, add the following line to the bottom of the Hosts file:<\/p>\n<p><code>0.0.0.0 www.facebook.com<\/code><\/p>\n<p>It should look like this in the text file:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-874551\" data-pagespeed-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/2023-02-22_10-20-33.png?trim=1,1&amp;bg-color=000&amp;pad=1,1\" alt=\"Add the 0.0.0.0 IP and URL.\" width=\"729\" height=\"376\" src=\"\/pagespeed_static\/1.JiBnMqyl6S.gif\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Save the document and you will no longer be able to access Facebook in any browser, including Chrome. If you still can, try clearing your DNS cache (Windows, Mac, Linux) or restarting your computer.<\/p>\n<p>Why does this work? We\u2019re telling the computer to route all requests for \u201cwww.facebook.com\u201d to the IP address \u201c0.0.0.0.\u201d Since that is not a routable address, the site can\u2019t load.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_to_Block_Sites_on_Chrome_Through_Your_Router\"><\/span>How to Block Sites on Chrome Through Your Router<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Perhaps the most \u201cnuclear\u201d option for blocking websites in Chrome is doing it at the router level. Not only will this block websites in Chrome, but also any browser on any device on your Wi-Fi network.<\/p>\n<p>If your router has a companion app, it most likely has a feature to block websites for everyone and specific people. The router control panel can typically be accessed through an IP address such as <code>http:\/\/192.168.1.1<\/code> . This is often labeled on the router itself.<\/p>\n<p>Once in the router control panel, look for some sort of parental control section. Some routers only have blanket settings, while others will let you block specific websites of your choosing.
