But why? <\/p>\n<p>All part of a massive design flaw that I will try to break down in this <\/p>\n<p>So let\u2019s get into it\u2026 <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/KmeUPnnlZJ\">pic.twitter.com\/KmeUPnnlZJ<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 DBCryptoX \u26a1\ufe0f (@DBCrypt0) <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DBCrypt0\/status\/1629912405898567681?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 26, 2023<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>However, Yankovenko in a response Tweet some 20 minutes later called the theory as coming from \u201cpure ignorance.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>In short, he explained that the votes \u2014 which are part of a \u201csingle giant quorum\u201d \u2014 contribute to provide an \u201cexceptional level of security and high throughput and low fees\u201d simultaneously.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Why are votes transactions?  Every thread that I&#8217;ve seen that talks about this comes form pure ignorance.<\/p>\n<p>Classic BFT consensus requires quadratic messaging overhead.<\/p>\n<p>The more nodes you have in the same quorum, the part of the network that agrees on the state, the more messages\u2026 <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/8lOhICb8mn\">https:\/\/t.co\/8lOhICb8mn<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 toly  (@aeyakovenko) <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/aeyakovenko\/status\/1630281066253811715?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 27, 2023<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>However, Yakovenko didn\u2019t exactly refute DBCryptoX\u2019s claim that 90-95% of transactions on Solana comprise these validator messages and on-chain votes, which, DBCryptoX <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DBCrypt0\/status\/1629912449653637127\">suggests<\/a> has helped \u201cbog down the system.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.cointelegraph.com\/uploads\/2023-02\/6ec34b44-53bf-4997-b4d0-c0d47b839005.jpg\"><figcaption style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>DBCryptoX claims that validator messages and on-chain votes are clogging up the Solana network. Source: <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DBCrypt0\/status\/1629912460944654341\">Twitter.<\/a><\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>DBCryptoX also claimed that the network outages were last 20 hours because it takes considerable time for validators to meet and reach a consensus (and thus a solution) using off-chain means, such as a messaging system like Discord.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Related: <\/em><\/strong><strong><em>Solana Spaces will close New York and Miami stores 7 months after opening <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Many commentators on DBCryptoX&#8217;s initial post also <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ear to have disagreed with their theory.<\/p>\n<p>Software engineer Alex Kroeger of Solana-powered Wallet Phantom <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/alex_kroeger\/status\/1630250226018832386\">said<\/a> that there is likely no singular cause of the network outages and that validators of proof-of-stake systems need a lot of network communication to achieve validation.<\/p>\n<p>While the network officially restarted on late Feb. 25, it appears as though members of the cryptocurrency community are getting tired of the frequent network outages on Solana.<\/p>\n<p>Cointelegraph reached out to Solana Labs for comment but didn&#8217;t receive a response by the time of publication.<\/p>\n<p><template data-name=\"subscription_form\" data-type=\"crypto_biz\"><\/template><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
