Recently, a picture of code I wrote was sold at auction for .41 BTC. It was advertised as my code in the listing and presented to the public for sale and profit. 1\/9 <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/5TcEJu4p5e\">pic.twitter.com\/5TcEJu4p5e<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Luke Dashjr (@LukeDashjr) <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LukeDashjr\/status\/1630027219878699009?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 27, 2023<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>&#8220;It was advertised as my code in the listing and presented to the public for sale and profit,&#8221; Dashjr explained. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Let me be clear \u2013 I was not involved with the creation and sale of this or any other NFTs. I have not consented to the use of my code or my name for this purpose. Instead, 3rd parties are marketing my name and my code for their own monetary gain,&#8221; he added. <\/p>\n<p>Dashjr revealed that the winner of the auction eventually contacted him and he had to inform them he was not involved with the sale. <\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.cointelegraph.com\/uploads\/2023-02\/a0b2d1bc-14d9-4bf1-9a8d-904c3e9cc0d4.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\"><figcaption style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>The auction winner reportedly contacted Luke Dashir, only to discover he was not involved with the sale. Source: Luke Dashir<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Dashjr claims that an individual \u2014 either the seller or the auction site \u2014 had reached out, and offered him &#8220;a donation of 90% of the auction proceeds,&#8221; which he declined.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe public should also be aware that the seller and\/or auction site offered me a donation of 90% of the auction proceeds \u201cshould I choose to accept\u201d it. I feel this is a clear attempt to: (1) bribe me into silence; and\/or (2) obtain my consent after the fact,\u201d he explained, adding:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;I will not accept such payment at the expense of the public who are being misled. I will not accept any such \u201cdonation\u201d.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;Due to the misrepresentation involved and actual buyer confusion, I strongly insist upon 100% of the auction proceeds to be refunded to the buyer,&#8221; Dashjr said. <\/p>\n<p>According to Dashjr, &#8220;other Bitcoin devs&#8221; have been placed in similar situations and been offered &#8220;considerable&#8221; donations for their cooperation; however, he did not provide any specific details. <\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.cointelegraph.com\/uploads\/2023-02\/79a87ae7-a91c-4b2b-87b9-d468ace68f1d.jpg\"><figcaption style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>A message from a purported seller of the NFT offering Luke Dashjr a &#8220;donation&#8221; from the auction. I want the public to be aware of where I stand,&#8221; he added. <\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Related: <\/em><\/strong><strong><em>Navigating the world of crypto: Tips for avoiding scams<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Early last year, decentralized marketplace OpenSea <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/opensea\/status\/1486843202959122433?s=20&amp;t=WfDfurtj0_vYLBZxDVe_Fw\">reported<\/a> that over 80% of NFTs minted using its minting tool were &#8220;plagiarized works, fake collections, and spam.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>Dashjr was reportedly the unfortunate victim of a hack on the last day of 2022 which lost him \u201cbasically\u201d all his BTC.<\/p>\n<p>Hackers gained access to his PGP (Pretty Good Privacy) key, a common security method that uses two keys to gain access to encrypted information.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a> ignited a debate around self-custody, which became a hot topic after the collapse of crypto exchange FTX.<\/p>\n<p><template data-name=\"subscription_form\" data-type=\"crypto_biz\"><\/template><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
