It is estimated to have impacted around 27 employees.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">1\/ Yesterday we made the difficult decision to restructure several of Messari\u2019s internal teams, leading to a 15% staff reduction.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;re grateful for the contributions of the teammates we have parted ways with, and will provide resources and connections to help them transition.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Ryan Selkis  (@twobitidiot) <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/twobitidiot\/status\/1628739313214029824?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 23, 2023<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>Meanwhile, an Elliptic spokesperson <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dlnews.com\/articles\/people-culture\/blockchain-analytics-firm-elliptic-cuts-10-of-staff-as-crypto-winter-bites\/\">told<\/a> DL<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">News<\/a> on Feb. 24 that the decision to lay off 20 employees was a move to tamp down operating expenses.<\/p>\n<p>It follows news from earlier in the month, when Chainalysis, another blockchain analytics company, revealed it had laid off 44 of its 900 employees, representing 4.8% of its workforce \u201cprimarily in sales.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Neil Dundon, an Australia-based crypto recruiter told Cointelegraph \u201cthe spike in layoffs is a macro event not just in Web3 but tech in <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">general<\/a> fueled by fears of an extended recession.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.cointelegraph.com\/uploads\/2023-03\/e165235f-ee45-426a-83c7-30559ec1a75e.png\"><figcaption style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Tech layoffs between January 2022 to February 2023. Source: Layoffs.fyi<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Data from layoff tracker Layoffs.fyi <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/layoffs.fyi\/\">revealed<\/a> there was a total of 24,572 employees laid off across 129 tech companies in February, down from 84,414 across 268 tech companies in January.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWeb3 is always going to be hit to a harder degree at least until Bitcoin decouples from the stock market. There may also be some fears of tougher regulations in web3 adding to the spike. But as always crypto is resilient.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On the higher end of layoffs in the month, nonfungible token (NFT) company <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dapperlabs.com\/newsroom\/a-message-from-our-founder-and-ceo-roham-gharegozlou\">Dapper<\/a> Labs and Ethereum-scaling platform <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/polygon.technology\/blog\/consolidating-teams-within-polygon-labs\">Polygon<\/a> Labs both dismissed around 20% of staff as a result of internal restructuring.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">A big part of this strategy includes unifying all of our teams under Polygon Labs to drive more growth.<\/p>\n<p>As part of this consolidation process,  we\u2019ve made the difficult decision to reduce our team by 20% impacting multiple teams and about 100 positions.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Sandeep | Polygon  Top 3 by impact (@sandeepnailwal) <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/sandeepnailwal\/status\/1628020721375928320?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 21, 2023<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>In a Feb. 21 <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Twitter<\/a> post, Polygon co-founder Sandeep Nailwal <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/sandeepnailwal\/status\/1628020721375928320?lang=en\">explained<\/a> the move was a result of unifying all its internal teams under Polygon Labs, leading to 100 jobs being cut. <\/p>\n<p>On Feb. 23, Dapper Labs CEO Roham Gharegozlou confirmed another round of layoffs at his company following a first wave in November, noting it was part of restructuring \u201cto improve our focus and efficiency.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Immutable, the Australian firm behind another Ethereum layer-2 blockchain protocol, also <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theaustralian.com.au\/business\/technology\/i-take-full-ownership-crypto-startup-axes-11pc-of-workforce\/news-story\/6a78278bdba42622c65c6744089bdfb5?amp\">reportedly<\/a> cut staff during the month, reducing headcount by 11%. <\/p>\n<p>Other firms to announce headcount reductions included crypto exchange Bittrex, NFT marketplace Magic Eden, institutional crypto custodian Fireblocks, software firm Protocol Labs and crypto media company The Block. <\/p>\n<p>Payments company Affirm announced it was sunsetting its crypto program during the month amid a 19% staff cut, though it is not known how many employees from its crypto unit were dismissed as a result.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Related: <\/em><\/strong><strong><em>Crypto recruitment execs reveal the safest jobs amid layoff season<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Kevin Gibson, founder of blockchain recruitment firm Proof of Search agreed that the pace of layoffs appears to have slowed compared to January.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJan was big as it followed boards [and venture capital] looking [at] 2022 results and preparing for the worst,\u201d he said. \u201cWe have seen less laid-off candidates this month.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cCompanies are still building great products and the current teams are really stretched so more layoffs would be cutting into muscle right now for many companies.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Gibson however warns that the United States securities regulator could still \u201cbring about more pain,\u201d while continued press coverage of Sam Bankman-Fried and the FTX collapse \u201cis having an effect on the public perception of the sector and mainstream adoption.\u201d <\/p>\n<p><template data-name=\"subscription_form\" data-type=\"markets_outlook\"><\/template><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
