Polygon launches decentralized ID product powered by ZK proofs &#8220;<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h1>\n<div class=\"post-content\" data-v-48054ca8>Polygon, a layer-2 scaling protocol for Ethereum has launched a zero-knowledge decentralized identity solution, Polygon ID to the public nearly a year after announcing its development.<\/p>\n<p>The service uses zero-knowledge proofs (ZK proofs) that use cryptographic techniques to allow users to verify their identity online without having their sensitive information passed, or potentially stored with a third party.<\/p>\n<p>The public <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.polygon.technology\/blog\/polygon-id-open-source-release-brings-better-digital-trust-for-all\">release<\/a> of Polygon ID by Polygon Labs on Mar. 1 comes almost 12 months after it was officially launched in a closed-source environment in late March 2022, which the Polygon team says was built to \u201csolve the issue of digital trust.\u201d <\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">ZERO KNOWLEDGE IDENTITY FOR WEB3<\/p>\n<p>The Polygon ID team is excited to announce 4 tools have been released in the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/PolygonID?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#PolygonID<\/a> Identity Infrastructure to build a more equitable internet that places identity at the center of it.<\/p>\n<p>The future is self-sovereign\u26d3<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/h66KyDurJE\">https:\/\/t.co\/h66KyDurJE<\/a> <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/jTBbzBNVJk\">pic.twitter.com\/jTBbzBNVJk<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Polygon (@0xPolygon) <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/0xPolygon\/status\/1630997045703049238?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 1, 2023<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\u201cWhat sets Polygon ID apart from most other decentralized ID frameworks is its implementation of zero-knowledge <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/technology\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"Technology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">technology<\/a>, allowing users to verify their identities or other credentials without necessarily revealing sensitive information,\u201d said Polygon. <\/p>\n<p>The public release introduces four new tools to the Polygon ID toolset \u2014 Verifier SDK, Issuer Node, Wallet SDK and Wallet <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">App<\/a> \u2014 which will allow Polygon developers to integrate decentralized identity into their applications.<\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.cointelegraph.com\/uploads\/2023-03\/42700b55-bde2-4234-b61c-16674d3b0602.PNG\"><figcaption style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>A simple chart explaining how Polygon ID interacts with user credentials. Source: <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.polygon.technology\/polygon-id\">Polygon<\/a><\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Users will be able to produce zero-knowledge proofs using off-chain credentials \u2014 such as their passport, national ID or a bachelor&#8217;s degree \u2014 to interact with smart contracts and verify information on-chain. <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThis means that off-chain data can now be used for trustless on-chain verifications in the widely-supported Verified Credential format.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Polygon claims it\u2019s also the first ZK-based digital ID tool that allows users to hold credentials locally on handheld devices such as smartphones, and that users will no longer need passwords:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cPasswordless logins exchange encrypted verifiable credentials by simply scanning a QR code or connecting to a desktop wallet.
