That&#8217;s good <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a> for American workers, but potentially bad news in the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-i13n=\"cpos:1;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/inflation-business-d3468f5d9f6105dadffe69f30e411aa4\" data-ylk=\"slk:fight against inflation;cpos:1;pos:1\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">fight against inflation<\/a> by the Federal Reserve, which has been ratcheting up its benchmark interest rate for a year in an effort to cool the economy, loosen the labor market and tame inflation.<\/p>\n<p>Applications for jobless claims in the U.S. for the week ending February 25 fell to 190,000 from 192,000 the previous week, the Labor Department said Thursday. It\u2019s the seventh straight week claims were under 200,000.<\/p>\n<p>The four-week moving average of claims, which evens out some of the weekly volatility, rose by 1,750 to 193,000, remaining below the 200,000 threshold for the sixth straight week.<\/p>\n<p>Applications for unemployment benefits are considered a proxy for the number layoffs in the U.S.<\/p>\n<p>In February, the Fed raised its main lending rate by 25 basis points, its eighth rate hike in less than a year. The central bank\u2019s benchmark rate is now in a range of 4.5% to 4.75%, its highest level in 15 years.<\/p>\n<p>The Fed\u2019s hawkish interest rate policy appeared to be slowing inflation, but <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-i13n=\"cpos:2;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/inflation-federal-reserve-system-business-cb7f80cdf0a55088a85cc3da20a8b155\" data-ylk=\"slk:recent data has suggested otherwise;cpos:2;pos:1\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">recent data has suggested otherwise<\/a>. Some economists now expect the Fed to raise its benchmark rate by a substantial half-percentage point when it meets later this month.<\/p>\n<p>The Fed\u2019s rate hikes have <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-i13n=\"cpos:3;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/inflation-federal-reserve-system-business-4bbfab5f0c89ec0c1d870a3eef5e56c5\" data-ylk=\"slk:done little to cool a red-hot U.S. job market;cpos:3;pos:1\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">done little to cool a red-hot U.S. job market<\/a>, which has put upward pressure on wages, and as a result, prices.<\/p>\n<p>Last month, the government reported that employers added a better-than-expected <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-i13n=\"cpos:4;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/us-january-jobs-report-f53c7dc42f996cfa96c80c9128de2831?utm_source=homepage&amp;utm_medium=TopNews&amp;utm_campaign=position_03\" data-ylk=\"slk:517,000 jobs in January;cpos:4;pos:1\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">517,000 jobs in January<\/a> and that the unemployment rate dipped to 3.4%, the lowest level since 1969. Fed policymakers have forecast that the unemployment rate would rise to 4.6% by the end of this year, a sizable increase historically associated with recessions.<\/p>\n<p>Though the U.S. labor market remains strong, layoffs have been mounting in the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/technology\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"Technology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">technology<\/a> sector, where many companies overhired after a pandemic boom. IBM, Microsoft, Amazon, Salesforce, <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Facebook<\/a> parent Meta, Twitter and DoorDash have all announced layoffs in recent months.<\/p>\n<p>The real estate sector has also been battered by the Fed\u2019s interest rate hikes. Higher mortgage rates \u2014 currently above 6% \u2014 have slowed home sales for 12 straight months.
