But hey, we\u2019re looking ahead to \u201cbare-minimum Monday.\u201d<\/p>\n<p> That\u2019s the newest workplace buzz phrase gaining attention, following such others as the Great Resignation, quiet quitting and <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/forget-quiet-quitting-2023-layoffs-1776002\" class=\"icon none\">loud layoffs<\/a>. It means just what its name implies: taking it easy on the first day of the workweek as a kind of coping mechanism.<\/p>\n<div class=\"paywall\">\n       Marisa Jo Mayes, a TikTok creator who works for herself, is credited with coining the term and popularizing it. As she shared in <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/i-do-bare-minimum-mondays-at-work-curb-burnout-stress-2023-2\" class=\"icon none\">an Insider story<\/a>, she was experiencing the \u201cSunday scaries\u201d \u2014 that is, dreading the workweek ahead \u2014 and \u201crealized something had to change.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Her solution: to do, well, the bare minimum on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t take meetings and take it slow for the first two hours. I\u2019ll do some reading, some journaling, maybe some stuff around the house,\u201d Mayes explained. \u201cIt\u2019s two hours of no <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/technology\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"Technology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">technology<\/a> \u2014 no checking email \u2014 just doing whatever I need to do to feel good starting my day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mayes has gotten plenty of viral-like attention for her buzz phrase \u2014 and some are taking the concept seriously. \u201cIt\u2019s a real thing,\u201d said <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/videos\/business\/2023\/02\/27\/bare-minimum-monday-tiktok-romans-cnntm-contd-vpx.cnn\" class=\"icon none\">CNN\u2019s chief business correspondent, Christine Romans<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Still, others are suggesting bare-minimum Monday has its limits.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s all well and good thinking \u2018I\u2019m just going to do some light filing and tidy my desk\u2019 but what happens if the project you are working on hits an unexpected but enormous obstacle? What if your colleague is off sick and you need to cover their responsibilities?\u201d wrote Martha Alexander <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/escapist\/bare-minimum-monday-what-is-it-b1061683.html\" class=\"icon none\">in a column<\/a> for the Evening Standard.<\/p>\n<p>Alexander also made the point that bare-minimum Monday (or BMM, as it\u2019s sometimes referred to) isn\u2019t exactly a new thing: \u201cWho hasn\u2019t had a hectic, heavy weekend and found themselves sitting at their desk on a Monday morning thinking, \u2018I just need to survive the next eight hours\u2019 and quietly accepting this is not going to be the most dynamic day of their career?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In the Insider story, Mayes said she\u2019s gotten her share of criticism, especially from those who suggest she\u2019s \u201can entitled millennial who doesn\u2019t know the value of hard work.\u201d She added that bare-minimum Monday \u201cisn\u2019t realistic for everybody.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"cx-membership-tile\"><\/div>\n<p>But she sticks by her essential point \u2014 that we shouldn\u2019t put too much pressure on ourselves at the start of the workweek.
