\n Amy Adams has joined the cast of Universal Pictures\u2019 \u201cDear Evan Hansen\u201d and will portray Cynthia Murphy, mother of the characters Connor and Zoe Murphy.<\/p>\n

\u201cDear Evan Hansen,\u201d a Tony-winning musical, opened on Broadway in 2016. The story follows a high schooler with social<\/a> anxiety who gets caught up in a lie after Connor Murphy\u2019s\u00a0family mistakes one of Hansen\u2019s letters for their son\u2019s suicide note. Kaitlyn Dever has been cast in the role of Zoe Murphy.<\/p>\n

Universal acquired the feature film rights in late 2018. Stephen Chbosky (\u201cWonder\u201d) will direct from a script<\/a> by Steven Levenson, who wrote the book for the stage musical. Marc Platt (\u201cLa La Land\u201d) and Adam Siegel will produce for their Universal-based Marc Platt Productions. Ben Platt, who originated the part and won a Tony for his performance, is expected to reprise the title role. He\u2019s the son of Marc Platt.<\/p>\n

Universal announced last week that Amandla Stenberg will appear as high school senior Alana \u2014 in an expanded role from the stage production \u2014 and will perform a song in the film.<\/p>\n

Adams will next be seen in the upcoming \u201cHillbilly Elegy\u201d and \u201cThe Woman in the Window.\u201d She\u2019s been nominated for Oscars for \u201cJunebug,\u201d \u201cDoubt,\u201d \u201cThe Fighter,\u201d \u201cThe Master,\u201d \u201cAmerican Hustle\u201d and \u201cVice.\u201d<\/p>\n

Universal\u2019s senior vice president of production Sara Scott and director of development Lexi Barta will oversee production on behalf of the studio. Adams is represented by WME, Linden Entertainment and Sloane, Offer, Weber and Dern. The news<\/a> was first reported by Deadline.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
