\n Mark Zuckerberg poured gasoline on his simmering feud with Apple on Friday, slamming the company\u2019s \u201cstranglehold\u201d on the iPhone\u2019s App Store, saying it charges \u201cmonopoly rents.\u201d<\/p>\n

In leaked remarks from Facebook<\/a>\u2019s weekly employee town hall obtained by BuzzFeed, Zuckerberg railed against the 30-percent cut that Apple takes from in-app iPhone purchases.<\/p>\n

\u201c[Apple has] this unique stranglehold as a gatekeeper on what gets on phones,\u201d Zuckerberg said, adding that the App Store \u201cblocks innovation, blocks competition\u201d as well as allows the Cupertino, Calif.-based Apple \u201cto charge monopoly rents.\u201d<\/p>\n

Apple maintains strict quality control over the App Store, which is the only way to download software onto iPhones. In his comments, Zuckerberg said that Apple\u2019s rules stifle innovation \u201cthat could really improve people\u2019s lives.\u201d<\/p>\n

Zuckerberg\u2019s comments arrived just a day after Facebook publicly doubled down on its criticism of the iPhone maker\u2019s steep fees, revealing that Apple had previously rejected its attempt to be transparent about its steep fees.<\/p>\n

The social networking giant said that Apple forbade Facebook from warning users of a new online events feature that Apple would take a 30-percent cut of sales, citing App Store rules that bars developers from showing users \u201cirrelevant\u201d information.<\/p>\n

\u201cNow more than ever, we should have the option to help people understand where money they intend for small businesses actually goes,\u201d Facebook said in a statement. \u201cUnfortunately Apple rejected our transparency notice around their 30-percent tax but we are still working to make that information available inside the app experience.\u201d<\/p>\n

Zuckerberg also addressed Apple\u2019s high-profile legal fight with Epic Game<\/a>s, the maker of mega-popular video game \u201cFortnite\u201d.<\/p>\n

Apple booted \u201cFortnite\u201d from the App Store after Epic introduced a new payment system which allowed it to circumvent the iPhone maker\u2019s fees, and threatened to disable Epic\u2019s developer accounts, which would have broken the Unreal Engine, a tool that other game developers use to pwoer their three-dimensional graphics.<\/p>\n

Zuckerberg called Apple\u2019s planned retaliation \u2014 which was stopped by a judge this week \u2014 \u201cquite problematic\u201d and \u201cjust an extremely aggressive move.\u201d<\/p>\n
